First-Person Shooters

The Battlefield Blog has announced the release of the Battlefield 4 Fall Update for DICE’s first-person shooter.  With this major patch for Battlefield 4, player movement has been improved to more closely match that of Battlefield 3, while still maintaining the animation fidelity of Battlefield 4. In addition, the High Frequency Network Update has now been added to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and is set to default. This makes the server update the client on what is happening with greater frequency, resulting in a smoother, more “correct” player experience. By popular demand, the Fall Update also introduces a new preset called “Classic Mode”. Rules on these servers hone back to Battlefield 2/3 and are designed for skilled players looking for more of a challenge and seeking stricter rules.

We’re a little under two months away from the launch of this year’s Call of Duty entry, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. And since it feels like no major game can come out and surprise people anymore, let’s delve into the game’s Achievement/Trophy list, because that’s been revealed today.

Speaking of Advanced Warfare’s campaign, don’t expect this one to be as short as its predecessors and end after 5-6 hours. Sledgehammer Games‘ first shot with the Call of Duty series’ campaign mode will apparently clock in with a longer playtime. Said Glen Schofield, studio head and co-founder of Sledgehammer, in response to a question on Twitter, this particular campaign is “coming in longer than the last few.”

Fly two brand new heavy-lift helicopters, supported by new content and features

Bohemia Interactive today announced the official release date for Arma 3’s second premium DLC, Arma 3 Helicopters. Lifting off on November 4th, the new DLC will introduce the highly detailed CH-67 Huron and Mi-290 Taru heavy-lift helicopters, and will be supported by a variety of free new content and features in an accompanying Arma 3 platform update.

The CH-67 Huron is a twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter. It is a modernized version of the CH-47 Chinook and its primary role is the transportation of troops, vehicles and cargo. The Huron exists in two variants: the armed variant with two side gunners manning 6.5 mm gatling guns, and the transport version which replaces the gunners with two additional passenger positions.

The Mi-290 Taru is a heavy utility helicopter with coaxial rotors and a unique modular construction. Various mission pods allow the Taru to serve many different roles. It can transport cargo, troops, and provide battlefield supplies (ammunition, fuel, repair facilities, and medical equipment). The helicopter can also transport light vehicles thanks to its sling loading capabilities. The latter, sling loading, is a brand new feature in Arma 3, and will be demonstrated in the official Sling Loading showcase scenario, which is included in the Helicopters DLC package.

Overall, the addition of the two new helicopters and their skin variants will place a stronger emphasis on the role of logistics in Arma 3’s open-world combat. This idea is complemented by the upcoming Arma 3 platform update, which delivers a variety of free new playable content, alongside multiple game-changing features.

In terms of content, the Arma 3 platform update will ship the brand new Support multiplayer mode, where players will need to provide various types of helicopter support – such as troop transport and medevac – in Sector Control multiplayer scenarios. In addition, the update will include a set of ten VR Training helicopter stages, and five helicopter Time Trials, of which four will be exclusive to Helicopters DLC owners. A variety of new in-game objects, ranging from landing platforms to military decorations and more, will also be made available to Arma 3 content creators. Plus, Bohemia Interactive will add a related set of new Steam Achievements to the game.

With regards to the new features, the Arma 3 platform update comes with the optional RotorLib helicopter flight model, which is an upgraded version of the flight model used in Bohemia Interactive’s Take On Helicopters. Furthermore, the platform update will include the aforementioned new ability to sling load cargo, and last but certainly not least: the much-anticipated firing-from-vehicles feature. This functionality enables vehicle passengers to fire their weapon while seated.

The Arma 3 Helicopters DLC will be available on November 4th for 12.99 EUR/10.99 GBP/15.99 USD on Steam and Store.bistudio.com. People can already purchase the Arma 3 DLC Bundle, which includes the Arma 3 Karts, Arma 3 Helicopters, and the upcoming Arma 3 Marksmen DLC, for 19.99 EUR/16.99 GBP/24.99 USD on Steam and Store.bistudio.com. As a result of Bohemia Interactive’s new approach to DLC in Arma 3, which the studio announced in May, players will be able to try out all new DLC content before buying.

verdun-logoWe’re getting close to release…

Verdun has been surging forward as more than 85,000 players have played the World War One (WW1) FPS in Early Access already. Verdun is currently available on PC, Mac and Linux via Steam Early Access.

The Last Big Update

In order to keep up the momentum before going live, M2H and BlackMill Games are releasing their last big update. This update features a lot of improvements based on valuable feedback from the huge group of players that dove into the tactical trench warfare of Verdun this summer.

There have been some improvements to the performance and the inclusion of realistic bullet physics will have a profound impact on the First Person Shooter gameplay, as players now have to lead their targets and adjust their sighting in order to make an accurate shot. Today, Verdun released another big patch introducing competitive squads, advanced gameplay, iconic weaponry and another realistic map.

A new assault squad type which features 2 new authentic historic units; the “Stosstruppen” for the Germans and the “Canadian Assault Squad” for the Allies made their appearance in-game. Both new squads can call upon a dreadful new weapon, Gas! Gas was one of the most iconic elements of World War one and will be linked to Verdun’s unique squad levelling system. So get your gasmasks ready!

Also the British ‘Tommies’ will make their entrance to the war, and players will be able to fight with a new range of weaponry including the famous Lee-Enfield rifle and the iconic Lewis light machine gun. Other notable weapons released within this patch are the fearsome Trench Club and Feldspaten. Melee weapons that were ideal for close-quarter fighting!

Exciting news for WW1 history fans, Verdun has another new realistic WW1 map inspired by the battles of Vimy Ridge, Loos and Neuve Chapelle which took place in the Artois sector of the Western Front. The map named Artois features a massive German “redoubt”, which was a mine quarry turned fortress. The grim soil landscape is reflected visually, with slag heaps towering over the battlefield and endless rows of barbed entanglements dominating the scenery. Harsh conditions for the soldiers to live and fight in.

Find out more about Verdun at the games official website.

Final mission, NEW multiplayer mode and FREE multiplayer update now live on Steam

Independent developer Rebellion today announced the launch of three new pieces of DLC for Sniper Elite 3 on Steam for PC, with the content due to come to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in the near future.

This comes at the same time Sniper Elite 3 is 33% off in the Steam Weekend Sale (Ends Monday 10am PDT). And the PC Limited Special Edition also goes on sale at 33% off until Friday 26th September.

The Final Showdown

Save Churchill Part 3: Confrontation is the final episode and conclusion to the explosive Save Churchill campaign for Sniper Elite 3, featuring the largest environment ever seen in the series.

German sniper, Raubvogel lies in wait to ambush Churchill’s convoy en-route to the Casablanca Conference. Fight your way through the Axis barricades scattered amongst the foothills, move up into the mountains, flank the enemy encampments and begin your final ascent up the mountain to confront Raubvogel in an epic sniper duel that could decide the fate of a continent.

Stop Winston Churchill’s assassin before it’s too late! One bullet can change history…

NEW multiplayer mode – Capture the Flag

Capture the Flag has returned to the Sniper Elite series, offering players an objective focussed game with more speed and teamwork based gameplay.

Good snipers are still key to victory, but players will need to co-ordinate together to successfully assault the enemy base and capture the flag, relying on each other to protect the flag bearer and their own base from enemy attacks.

FREE multiplayer map – Night Watch

The fifth FREE multiplayer map for Sniper Elite 3 players on all platforms, Night Watch is one of the most challenging maps in the series. Taking players to an oasis shrouded in darkness, the ruins of an old town turned into a makeshift camp for enemy troops.

Two opposing watch towers provide the best sniping opportunities but also carry the highest risk, whereas vegetation on the water front can provide snipers with a place to hide from enemy scopes. The oasis itself provides a choke point as players close in on each other to take new positions and create sniping opportunities.

Night Watch is a balanced map available in all competitive multiplayer game modes, well suited to any team game whilst also offering a more focussed death match experience.

Summer of Sniper

Since its release on June 27th 2014 the Sniper Elite 3 team have been working constantly to bring new content to the game’s fans. Sniper Elite 3 has now had FOUR DLC missions, SIX weapons packs, THREE character skins and FIVE free maps. It’s been an incredible summer for both fans of the series and newcomers alike.

To celebrate Sniper Elite 3 is 33% off in the Steam Weekend Sale right now! As well as this the PC Limited Special Edition is 33% off on the Rebellion Gamestore .

The Battlefield Blog has more details on the upcoming The Final Stand DLC for Battlefield 4. They also announce testing of the add-on is taking place this week, providing instructions on how to try and get into the Community Test Environment to help, which requires a premium account (inspiring us to repeat our joke that paying to beta test is a grand tradition in the Battlefield series). Here’s a Final Stand official reveal trailer and here’s an excerpt:

With Final Stand, we knew from the start that we wanted to evolve the Battlefield experience and offer weapons and vehicles that behave differently than anything else on the battlefield. Taking place on the artic landscape of Russia, where the scientists of today are experimenting with technology that will define the battlefields of tomorrow (Battlefield 2142, anyone?), Final Stand will deliver four maps that are unique and distinct. With its military installations set against a wintry landscape, expect intense, infantry-focused combat.

Players will also discover secret prototype weapons and vehicles that further tie into the fiction around Final Stand, and to some extent the Battlefield series. This includes a Battle pick-up rail gun that fires a single round of powerful kinetic energy, and the hover tank prototype, which uses eight experimental jet propulsion engines to nimbly move around the battlefield. We have a few more surprises up our sleeves that we’ll share with you in the weeks ahead.

We definitely had a lot of fun designing these maps and the future-tech weapons and vehicles of Final Stand and hope you guys have as much fun with them as we do. That’s why we want you to start playing them now. Starting today we are going to be testing pre-release versions of the Final Stand maps on the CTE (Community Test Environment).
