Field of Glory: Kingdoms

field-of-glory-kingdomsThe medieval grand strategy game set in 1054 is receiving its first expansion. This new DLC will introduce new lands on the map, playable nations, and never-before-seen mechanics for nomadic and tribal civilizations.

Field of Glory: Kingdoms – Rajas and Tribes highlights new nations such as the Rajput kingdoms of India, the powerful African kingdoms of Ethiopia, Ghana, and many others. Gamers can now play not only as a Western king or emperor, but also as any nomadic or tribal nation present on the map. The map has been extended significantly, spanning several thousand kilometers to the south and east, reaching as far as Delhi in India and encompassing areas along the historic Silk Road.

With a focus on nomadic and tribal nations, two major new gameplay mechanics allow them to earn legacy points either through trade or warfare. Combined with their unique buildings, this results in a playstyle that is distinctly different from other nations:

  • The Great Trades serve two key purposes. First, they add depth and historical authenticity to tribal, nomadic, and non-European nations. Second, they provide these nations with a unique way to remain competitive against the dominant powers of the Western and Muslim worlds, such as the Holy Roman Empire, Byzantium, or the Fatimids.
  • The War Campaigns allow to designate specific regions as targets for the next military campaign. This designation of objectives is independent of claim declarations, meaning the two can be combined.
  • Furthermore, the game introduces two additional scenarios: one centered on Alexander Nevsky, the famous Rus’ hero, and the other on the vicious fratricidal conflict between the Guelphs and Ghibellines in Italy.

    What’s New:

  • Expanded Borders and New Playable Nations: the map will include the Indian Subcontinent and the kingdoms of Africa, featuring powerful nations like the Rajput Kingdoms and Kingdom of Ethiopia, offering fresh challenges and dynamics;
  • Nomadic and Tribal Mechanics: playing as a nomadic or tribal nation introduces new ways to accumulate legacy points. Custom trade buildings, powerful war campaigns, and distinct development paths set them apart from the established feudal powers.
  • Two New Scenarios: the strategic depth added to expansion goes even further, with new scenarios:
    1. Alexander Nevsky – Defend the Rus’ against the relentless advance of the Teutonic Knights and Swedish forces, stepping into the role of the legendary hero himself.
      Guelphs vs. Ghibellines – Take part in the brutal struggle for dominance in medieval Italy, as factions vie for control under the shadow of the Holy Roman Empire.

    Field of Glory: Kingdoms is the new game from award-winning studio AGEOD, makers of some of the best grand strategy games of all times. It is set in 1054, just after the Great Schism, and it encompasses more than two centuries of epic European, African, and Middle Eastern history.

    Kingdoms continues and expands the concept of national traits, just like its predecessor Empires did, but significantly broadens it both in number and diversity. The assumption here is that certain nations (or often groups of nations with the same culture) had specific traditions or approaches that cannot be covered by general rules applicable to everyone. Thus, it represents a blend of pragmatism and humility, recognizing that a game cannot replicate the entire complexity of the real world, and therefore, abstractions and simplifications are necessary.
