A season of celebration and giving!

After 4 months of heavy fighting wherein many lives were lost on both sides, something remarkable happened during Christmas 1914. Both sides set aside their weapons in order to celebrate Christmas together. German, French and British soldiers exchanged gifts, had Christmas dinners and sang carols. There was even a mention of a few organized football matches. In the spirit of such a unique event of peaceful humanity, the developers of Verdun will implement an actual in-game Christmas Truce where players put down their weapons to exchange seasonal greetings, throw snowballs at each other and engage in a football match!

During Christmas Truce a few competitions will be held where you can win one of the exciting Christmas packages. The packages with amongst others a Verdun Christmas card, a trench whistle, trench order booklets, and a secret surprise!

The competitions that are held are:

  • 19 December; a YouTube Christmas Truce video contest for the best video about this event
  • 20 December; a Steam Hub screenshot competition for the best in-game Christmas Truce screenshot

Franchise Tops $10 Billion in Sales Worldwide, Life-to-Date

Sales and Engagement Up Over Last Year Through First Week

Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc., today announced that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is the biggest entertainment launch of the year, besting not only all other video games, but also the biggest movies, music and books launched in 2014.

“Since Activision created the Call of Duty franchise in 2003, franchise revenues have exceeded $10 billion in sales worldwide, far exceeding box office receipts for such household movie franchises as Hunger Games, Transformers, Iron Man and Avengers, combined,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “Advanced Warfare is the biggest entertainment launch of 2014 in terms of revenue, surpassing all movie, music and book launches this year.”

“We poured our hearts into making Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare an epic ride and we are pleased with the performance,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO, Activision Publishing, Inc. “Sales and engagement are up through the first week compared to last year. Season Pass sales are up, as well. The game has been very positively reviewed and the response from fans has been tremendous. We believe Advanced Warfare will be the most successful game of the year and we thank our fans for making it the biggest entertainment launch of the year.”

Activision also confirmed that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is the highest-selling digital launch in console history according to Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and internal Activision estimates.

Engagement for Sledgehammer Games’ newest entry to the franchise is based on statistics from the first week after launch according to internal estimates, with gamers playing more than 370 million online matches in its first week of release and levelling up over 200 million times in Advanced Warfare online multiplayer mode.

Biggest entertainment launch of the year is based on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare retail and digital sell-through and reported movie, music and book gross sales, each for the first week following initial launch, according to publicly-available data, retail customer sell-through information and internal Activision estimates. Sales increase of Advanced Warfare versus last year is based on sell-through in week after initial launch.

Game Informer’s Just Cause 3 announcement coverage continues with word that Just Cause 3 will not ship with multiplayer, and any multiplayer support the sandbox action sequel receives will come after release, similar to Just Cause 2, which has a multiplayer mod created with Avalanche’s blessings. Studio cofounder Christofer Sundberg remains guarded on the topic at this time, saying, “Maybe sometime down the line, we’ll take Rico into the modern world of multiplaying.” The article also talks with the creators of the Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod, who remain cagy, raising suspicions they may have plans they are not revealing at this time. Shinra Technologies vice president of business Jacob Navok has the following to say:

“We’re working on a possible future collaboration with Avalanche Studios.” Game Informer may have more game information they are not sharing as well, as despite the vagueness of all the official statements, they come away saying they’d bet “not a small amount” that MP support will eventually come to the game.
