This Weekend, starting Today, Friday July 24, 2PM BST, Team17 and Expression Games are opening the doors to the first crossplay playtest for PC and console players. This playtest will take place on a brand new map, the Đắk Tô Airfield.

November 1967 saw the start of the Battle of Đắk Tô, an attack on a key US airfield base and surrounding hilltop fortifications in the central highlands of South Vietnam. The focal point of the base is its long, stretching airstrip, allowing nearby armor and recon units to take advantage and dominate the area. Impact craters and destroyed vehicles are strewn along the runway, caused by the constant bombardment of artillery strikes.

The operating airfield means the surrounding areas are less dense than the typical jungle, demanding effective teamwork and communication to navigate the open space safely.

Electronic Arts Inc. and Battlefield Studios today revealed a first look at Battlefield 6™ and Battlefield REDSEC, delivering the franchise’s largest seasonal update to date with Naval Warfare, new content, and a meticulously crafted knockout Top Gun crossover experience in partnership with Paramount Games Studio. The update will include the F-18/Super Hornet and iconic F-14 Tomcat, fan-favorite characters from Top Gun, as well as two new modes inspired by the franchise’s iconic aerial combat.

Three characters from Top Gun come to life in-game, fully voiced by their original performers: Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), Lt. Robert “Bob” Floyd (Lewis Pullman), Adm. Solomon “Warlock” Bates (Charles Parnell), with Top Gun-inspired character skins and cosmetics available in-game.

Carrier Strike is a new Battlefield 6 mode debuting during this collaboration that pits naval, air, and ground forces against one another as teams seek to destroy the enemy aircraft carrier in a showdown creating an incredible blending of Battlefield and Top Gun’s defining characteristics.

This massive Pacific theater battleground features vast air and sea spaces as well as naval aircraft carriers with operational flight decks, and the introduction of our new Dynamic Wave System. This system adds a new dimension to ocean combat, where waves affect boat movement, player aim, and line of sight, allowing players to strategically ambush, flank, and use as cover in firefights.

Phase 2 (Top Gun) debuts on August 18th with Battlefield and Top Gun’s collaboration content alongside a reimagining of one of Battlefield’s classic maps, Wake Island. The final phase of Season 4 (Tidal Strike) releases on September 15 and includes a collection event offering rewards for those who complete naval-based contracts and challenges.

Today we’re sharing a behind-the-scenes look at the Egyptian battlefield taking shape in Veterans: Napoleonic Wars, our real-time tactics wargame set in the Napoleonic era. Our new Steam post covers the desert environment, a brand-new campaign mechanic, and the forces players will face on the sands.

In the Egyptian setting, the environment itself becomes a tactical factor. Dunes slow down unit movement and force players to plan their approach routes carefully, while a shimmering heat haze – implemented as a post-processing effect – brings the scorching desert atmosphere to every battle.

The heat, however, is more than a visual effect. We’re introducing a heat fatigue mechanic to the campaign: units accumulate fatigue as they take part in missions, and exhausted soldiers become less effective in battle. Players can restore their troops by rotating units into the reserve or by issuing increased water rations – turning water into a strategic resource that is earned in battle, purchased with reputation or money, or gained by completing side objectives. Camel-mounted units are immune to the heat, a natural advantage of a mount born for the desert.

We’re also introducing two new factions. The Mamluks field a cavalry-centered army in three weights – light, regular, and heavy horsemen – supported by Fellahin peasant infantry, camel riders, and artillery. The Ottoman Empire brings a more structured force, with infantry ranging from Arnaut irregulars through regular Nizam troops to the famed Janissaries, alongside Deli light horsemen, Sipahi cavalry, artillery, and supply units.

Among the highlights are our dromedary camel units: each camel carries a two-man crew, with one soldier controlling the mount while the other fires – and both fighting in melee. Functionally filling the role of cavalry, these units feature unique animations and a range of visual styles, from familiar French uniforms to variants incorporating elements of traditional desert clothing.

On the technical side, we’ve shared our optimization-first approach: the battlefield is built entirely from low-poly objects, with high-detail models sculpted in ZBrush and baked into normal map textures – keeping in-game assets lightweight while preserving a rich, detailed look.
