combat-air-patrol-2-logoSim155 Ltd. has announced that Combat Air Patrol 2 (CAP2) will be updated to version v806. Its the most extensive update so far and will go live this week. One of the major features of v806 is radio comms. Radio exchanges and background chatter really improve simulation immersion. It also enables commands to aircraft within your section such as:

  • Formation control
  • Target assignment (A-A & A-G)
  • Report State
  • Navigation
  • Mission abort
  • Return to base
  • Recover/land on carrier
  • Emcon (Emissions Control)
  • Lights state

You also have RT to the carrier/fleet such as:

  • Request takeoff
  • Request land
  • Request position check
  • FAC assign fire mission to fleet

Target assignment is done by locking up an air target, surface target or locking a point with your Lantirn pod then commanding a wingman to attack your target.

Formation control is fun to use, you have standard mission formations such as combat spread, echelon etc. You also have the close formation ‘parade’ which is great for photo opportunities, not so great for sudden maneuvers!

Fleet FAC (Forward Air Controller) allows you create a fire mission for the fleet main guns, initiating a barrage at your Lantirn pod lock point.

Radio comms will continue to evolve throughout ‘Early Access’ with extra commands, associated AI logic and UI updates.

You can follow the development of Combat Air Patrol 2 via its Steam Community Hub. Find out more about Combat Air Patrol 2 at the games official website.

command-live-old-grudges-never-dieCommand LIVE. Play history live, as it happens.

Command LIVE is a very ambitious project. Its aim is to recreate highly accurate scenarios from real-world situations and events, as they happen. WarfareSims has teamed up with the best editors and modders from the community, to create short, engaging scenarios that re-create real life events. Where geopolitical instability calls for military power to come into play, the Command LIVE project calls for players.

The first DLC to be released under this name is Old Grudges Never Die. Players take control of either Russian or Turkish forces in the attempt to maintain national honor and pride, while keeping a lid on hostilities to prevent the outbreak of larger conflict.

This scenario follows on from the real events of November 2015, when a Russian Su-24 was shot down by a Turkish F-16. The consequent geopolitical situation and the interests at stake, including the involvement of NATO, Syrian and rebel forces and ISIS, create a set of circumstances where every false move can end up in a bloodshed.

To better understand the historical landscape and the forces in play, the Command LIVE News Network has put a reporter on the ground and we have just received her video report! Watch it here!

The editorial team has also sent a report that we have published into the first issue of a newspaper (.PDF link) that will be published alongside each Command LIVE scenario.

Command Live: Old Grudges Never Die is an expansion for Command: Modern/Air Naval Operations will be available on July 19th on our stores and on Steam!

Cooler Master have made some seriously good CPU coolers in the past, the clue is in their name, “cooler” and “master”, so one would think they’re pretty good at that whole cooling thing! With their seemingly endless popularity in the air cooling market, such as the legendary 212X, as well as their high-quality AIO coolers, we have been eager to see what they come up with next. Introducing the MasterLiquid series, which features their own unique FlowOp technology, a 100% Cooler Master designed pump, a new radiator design, brand new fans and more, the MasterLiquid is one of the most interesting AIO coolers we’ve had in the eTeknix office for a long time. We’ve got the 240mm model in for testing today, which features an aluminum radiator design, and comes with two very high-quality 120mm fans which promise low noise and good airflow for the MasterLiquid.

cooler-master-masterbox-5By Thomas Soderstrom @ Tom’s Hardware

For enthusiasts, the lower limit of acceptable case performance and quality used to come at around $80. There were certainly a few exceptions, such as a certain competitor’s venerable model 300, but even that name was tarnished when the company released a substandard replacement; spending any more time in that discussion would distract from the subject of today’s review: Cooler Master’s MasterBox 5.

order-of-battle-ww2By Matrix Games

Matrix Games has published an interview with Lukas Nijsten, game designer behind the Order of Battle series. He speaks at length of the upcoming expansion, Winter War, as well as the saga in general, and gives us a hint on what we can expect next.

“The Winter War turned out to be an ideal step toward the European theatre of WW2. Because the Chinese forces in Morning Sun use a lot of Soviet aircraft and vehicles from the 1930′s, a substantial number of required unit models were already available. In addition, it allowed us to create a small subset of German and Soviet WW2 units, as well as the new winter climate, as a stepping stone toward future Eastern and Western Front campaigns.”
