burden-of-commandHi, I’m Luke Hughes project lead On Burden of Command. Our two minute teaser video focused heavily on RPG aspects. But what about tactical combat?! While tactical details are still being worked out, today I can give you a high level impression by pointing to inspirations from cardboard. Hunh? Cardboard? Well IMHO a lot of creativity over the last few decades has come from the physical board game space (a future blog will cover digital influences). I feel privileged to “stand on the shoulders of giants” (well at least crouch). In this blog I will describe those influences and how they shape Burden of Command’s tactical design. The games below are by no means an exhaustive list, there are many other fine designs out there, these are just the ones that have had the most influence on me.

wolfenstein2-the-new-colossusA lot has happened in the 14 years since the Nazis have won World War II. It’s now 1961, the Reich has overtaken almost the entire world, and BJ Blazkowicz is returning to his home to rally the resistance and repel the invaders. But this isn’t the America BJ fought for during the war. Not anymore. Check out our latest video for a look at what’s in store for “Terror-Billy” in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

This game is all about liberating the U.S. and creating a platform there to liberate the rest of the world,” says Creative Director Jens Matthies. But first BJ needs to shoot, blast, hack and stab his way through New York, New Orleans, New Mexico – and several other locations – all of which have been significantly altered by years of Nazi oppression. From Nazi propaganda to straight-up subjugation, America has changed – but that won’t stop BJ from doing his job to liberate his country… and the rest of the world.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus releases on October 27, 2017, on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Winner of more than 100 awards at E3 2017, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus also received four nominations from the official E3 Game Critics Awards (including Best of Show) and won Best Action Game.

fields-of-glory-2Welcome to this AAR for Field of Glory II, the upcoming sequel of the original Field of Glory and developed by the legendary game designer Richard Bodley Scott (Field of Glory Tabletop, Pike and Shot, Sengoku Jidai).

For this After Action Report, I decided on a Custom Battle, with the AI at the highest difficulty level: Deity (sounds intimidating)!

In Field of Glory II, Custom Battles allow players to build their favourite battle with a wide range of options at their disposal. You can choose between 78 army lists of the period (check here for the entire list!), you can set the force size, the map type, and many other settings. An interesting thing when you select your enemy is that you can restrict the selection to geographical and historical consistency (or you can just go ahead and make the Ancient British fight against the Sarmatians!).

I picked up the Roman Army (219 – 200 BC) and, for my opponent, I decided to face the Macedonians (260-148 BC).

The devs of Campaign Series: Middle East 1948-1985 always did their best to let their game be as modders-friendly as possible, in order to let the community always have fun playing and creating new contents, and this is why they created this amazing guide to help everyone, from newcomers to veterans, learn and further their knowledge regarding the modding world.

You can also find a list of a bunch of mods for the game itself, hurry up and check it out!

So go on and enjoy this thread, and if you have any question don’t hesitate and ask! The devs will do their best to answer as soon as possible!

inno3d-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-ichill-blackBy Matthew Lambert @ Bit-Tech

We’ve seen quite a few third-party GTX 1080 Ti cards at this point, and all of them have a few things in common: chart-topping performance, very high price tags, and bulky air-coolers. The Inno3D GTX 1080 Ti iChill Black, however, only ticks the first two of those boxes. Instead of a whopping great big air-cooler (which the company is no stranger to), Inno3D has opted for a hybrid cooling system with a closed-loop all-in-one liquid-cooler strapped to the GPU and a more traditional air-cooling setup for the other components.

msi-b350-tomahawk-am4-moboBy MAC @ Hardware Canucks

The motherboard that we are going to be reviewing today is the MSI B350 Tomahawk, which happens to be one of the most popular B350 models at the moment. With a retail price of $110 USD / $145 CAD, it certainly meets our definition of an affordable motherboard. When it comes to specs, it comes pretty well appointed. It has a six-phase CPU power design – which is average for B350 motherboards – along with one PCI-E x3.0 X16 slot, one PCI-E x16 slot that operates at PCI-E 2.0 x4, two PCI-E 2.0 x1 slots, and two legacy PCI slots. Connectivity wise, there are four SATA 6Gb/s ports, one full-speed M.2 x4 slot, eight USB 3.1 Gen1/USB 3.0 ports (four rear I/O, four via headers), and six USB 2.0 ports (two rear I/O, four via headers). Overall, this motherboard looks quite promising. As long as the UEFI BIOS and included software utilities aren’t troublesome, and it can achieve our baseline Ryzen 7 overclock, the MSI B350 Tomahawk is going to be an easy recommendation. Now it’s time to see if everything has indeed been well implemented.

fractal-design-meshify-cBy Hilbert Hagedoorn @ Guru3D

Fractal Design recently released their new Meshify C mid tower. The product is based on the Define C, but now has a bit more airflow thanks to a mesh front panel. This all predominantly black chassis comes with decent cooling options, lovely design and it will house up-to motherboards up-to a standard ATX form factor. Armed with a covered PSU (compartment) this product is made with airflow and liquid cooling in mind to serve the more performance oriented PCs. You’ll love the storage options, style, USB 3.1 and low noise levels. With the C series for compact chassis they have a couple of new features, and aimed at a relatively smaller form factor and silence.
