All new clan functionality, reworked Prokhorovka map and HD tank models bring more to the battle in Update 9.2

Wargaming today announced that Update 9.2 for World of Tanks is now available in North America. Players from Europe, Asia and Korea will be able to try out new content and features, including the introduction of the Strongholds game mode and a new map, Fire Arc, on July 31. By adding improvements on eight different maps and four reworked HD vehicle models in game, Update 9.2 continues Wargaming’s commitment to consistently refine the gaming experience throughout 2014.

Strongholds is an all new game mode designed specifically for members of Clan Wars. Clan Commanders are now able to create virtual bases for their clans, participate in Skirmishes alongside their fellow players, earn Industrial Resources, develop their Stronghold up to Level 4 and be awarded with special bonuses called Orders. Tankers can use Orders to activate a variety of temporary in-game bonuses for all clan members in all combat modes. As the level of the Stronghold increases, so does the frequency and quality of bonuses received.

“We are very excited to introduce the first iteration of Strongholds to World of Tanks,” said Anton Pankov, Executive Publishing Producer at Wargaming. “It is an extremely engaging game mode that combines tactics, strategy and action elements, bringing more depth to the World of Tanks metagame. Strongholds will evolve over time based on feedback from the World of Tanks community.”

In addition to Strongholds, Update 9.2 also introduces Fire Arc, the new version of Prokhorovka battle arena with stunning visual effects, as well as four new HD models including the Soviet IS and SU-100, the German StuG III and the British Churchill I, and improvements to eight in-game maps that have been reworked based on player requests.

nec-multisync-ea244uhd-24-inch-4k-monitorBy Paul Lilly @ HotHardware

What we have to evaluate today is NEC‘s new MultiSync EA244UHD, a 24-inch 4K Ultra HD monitor. As part of NEC’s EA series, this monitor is intended for high-end desktop users as opposed to professional graphics users, though there are features of the EA244UHD that may tempt potential customers who fall into the latter category. Things that separate this monitor from a traditional desktop display include extras like up to four-way display matrix support (there are multiple inputs for connecting multiple PCs), a ControlSync feature that lets users control the settings for up to half a dozen daisychained displays, a high-speed USB 3.0 hub, and a standard warranty that even covers the backlight for the first three years.

adata-xpg-v3-3100mhz-ddr3-memoryWritten By: Dan Stoltz @ Legit Reviews

Gone are the days of being on the cutting edge of memory with DDR3 running at 2133MHz! These days running 2133MHz memory is pretty much considered the norm for a high end gaming rig. If you’re looking to be on the bleeding edge of memory speeds you’re going to be limited to only one or two kits. Today we have one of the fastest kits available on the market to put through the paces, the ADATA XPG V3 DDR3 3100MHz 8GB memory kit. The ADATA XPG 3100MHz 8GB DDR3 memory kit is sold under part number AX3U3100W4G12-DBV-RG and is definitely for those building a killer rig without budget concerns as the XPG 3100MHz memory kit is currently retailing for only $869.99.

asus-rog-swift-pg278q-gsync-gaming-monitorBy: Hilbert Hagedoorn @ GURU3D

Join us as we review the ASUS Republic Of Gamers Swift PG278Q GSYNC gaming monitor. NVIDIA has announced GSync but 3rd party monitors with that GSYNC module have been hard to get. ASUS outs their second GSYNC compatible monitor, this round they do it with a nice 27-inch WQHD display that can handle a 144 Hz refresh rate and has 1ms response time. The downside, it is a TN screen. So how good is it really?

historical-article-revenge-for-pearl-harborThe Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, 18 April 1942

By John Dudek @ The Wargamer

The English speaking Japanese propaganda radio broadcaster stood atop the radio station building in downtown Tokyo speaking into his microphone on a sunny mid April spring day. He spoke of the warm sunny weather and about the city’s social events planned for that day, ranging from a cherry blossom parade to the two baseball games scheduled for that afternoon. He happily rhapsodized philosophically about the invincible strength of Imperial Japan and how of all the many nations now at war in the Pacific, only Japan was free from any fear of aerial bombing because the skies above were filled with iron defenses. Suddenly, the ear shattering wail of an air raid siren was heard, followed by an unbroken string of Japanese curses ending with “Bakayro!!” (Bastards!) Several hundred miles away, aboard an American aircraft carrier task force Admiral William Halsey listened to the static filled Japanese radio broadcast before smiling an evil grin. The B-25 medium bombers he so recently launched from the carrier USS Hornet were now bombing Tokyo. Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle, the mission’s leader had done the seemingly impossible.

Steam News announces the release of six new commanders for Company of Heroes 2, the World War II RTS sequel. There are three new US commanders and three new German commanders, and for the next week they are all being offered for 25% off.

The new commanders are:

  • US Forces Commander: Recon Support Company
  • US Forces Commander: Mechanized Company
  • US Forces Commander: Rifle Company
  • OKW Commander: Elite Armor Doctrine
  • OKW Commander: Scavenge Doctrine
  • OKW Commander: Fortifications Doctrine

Wargame managed to attract a large player base, by offering radically different gameplay from other RTS games, featuring original mechanics, spectacular visuals, and a gaming experience of extreme realism and unprecedented tactical depth, with the series becoming richer and more ambitious with every new game. Today, the Wargame franchise reaches a major milestone with its millionth copy sold!

Faithful to their principles of consistent post-launch game support – notably with free additional content – Eugen Systems celebrates this event by offering to all Wargame: Red Dragon players its first free DLC, fittingly named The Millionth Mile!

Focusing on the Eastern Bloc coalition, The Millionth Mile features more than 60 new units for Poland, Czechoslovakia, and East-Germany, bringing them into the 90′s and on an equal footing with Red Dragon’s main nations. The entire range of units are represented in the DLC: Infantry, tanks, planes, troop transports, and of course helicopters.

But The Millionth Mile also introduces a brand new kind of unit, in the form of an AShM (anti-ship missile!) truck carrier. These units, whose main function is to engage ships over long distances from the land, increase the tactical depth of the game while redefining Wargame’s naval warfare!

Wargame: Red Dragon players will find their game has been automatically updated with the DLC The Millionth Mile next time they launch the game. Reinforcements have arrived, the battle continues!
