Strategy and Wargaming

battleplanSlitherine Software today announced their latest RTS game “Battleplan“. Battleplan is not just another World War II strategy game. It’s a real-time strategy experience at army level that brings together everything we love about historical depth, tactical planning, and immersive gameplay. It’s ambitious, it’s innovative, and it’s designed to give you the tools to think and act like a real commander-in-chief.

What Makes Battleplan Different?

Set on the Western Front, Battleplan puts you in charge of massive divisions, giving you full operational control across a vast real-world-based maps. You’ll literally draw your strategies, lines for defensive fronts, arrows for flanking attacks and watch them unfold as your officers and units execute complex plans autonomously.

stronghold-crusader-definitive-editionWith the release of Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition almost upon us, Firefly Studios has saved the best for last, with today’s video update revealing their full post-launch release plan! In addition to the usual fixes, improvements and balancing expected of an expanded RTS remaster like Crusader, Firefly is also planning two major updates coming later this year.

Following the positive reception of their two public demos, the first released on January 20th alongside the game’s reveal and a second in June’s Steam Next Fest, the ‘castle sim’ developer can now commit to two major content updates. As a result the aforementioned Autumn and Winter Updates will both be released this year, alongside two separate paid DLCs.

Alongside community driven features coming at launch, which include new buildings and increased unit caps, Firefly’s post-release plan supplements those already confirmed. With 93% of players expressing an interest in Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition DLC, it was clear to the developer that post-launch content was something their community wanted, not exactly a surprise for their favourite game!

The free Autumn Update will feature a series-first economic campaign as well as a brand new CPU commander. Five missions will challenge players to complete a series of economic objectives, leaning heavily into the city builder gameplay mechanics of the castle builder series. The new computer-controlled commander can meanwhile be played as friend or foe, selectable in the game’s offline skirmish and online multiplayer modes as an opponent or ally. Last but not least, three new maps will also be added, one for skirmish, another in Free Build mode and a balanced multiplayer battlefield.

Following this content drop, the game’s free Winter Update will add perhaps the greatest player request so far… The ability to customise CPU opponents, castles and campaigns! Players will be able to create the rivals or allies of their dreams (or nightmares), design their defences and then place all of this into custom mission scenarios created by the community. If that wasn’t enough, the Winter Update continues this community-first trend with the addition of a second co-op campaign of missions. Was the 10 missions found in the first co-op trail not enough for you? Well, dare to brave the challenges of this new trail and you might just come out victorious. Once again a new map pack of three maps will be added to the overall pool, keeping things fresh for players after launch.

Releasing alongside these updates will be a pair of paid DLCs, which in Stronghold tradition will each introduce two new CPU opponents and a series of challenging missions known to fans as a ‘skirmish trail’. More will be revealed about these characters in due course, however today’s video may contain some clues for eagle eyed viewers. Either way you can expect a proper challenge, with some formidable new opponents mixing things up for series veterans.

wego-world-war-ii-stalingradThe wait is over. WEGO World War II: Stalingrad has officially launched on Steam with a special launch discount. Step into one of the most pivotal battles of WWII with turn-based tactics, dynamic fronts, and gritty realism.

WEGO World War II: Stalingrad 1942 comes with three campaigns. Each campaign consists of three to six linked scenarios. The game uses stylized maps of the Russian steppes over which a hexagonal grid system has been superimposed. This grid is employed to help regulate land unit placement, movement, and combat. Air, Naval, and Ground Assets are off-map capabilities that can be brought into play when the owning player sees fit.

Ground units range in size from company to regiment/brigade level and are represented on the game map using counters with stylized or NATO icons to display unit types.

Watch the Broken Arrow Release Trailer HERE.

The success of Broken Arrow precedes its release, with highly successful pre-launch beta tests and over half a million players already registered and ready for battle. The game has accumulated more than 380,000 hours watched on Twitch, 7,000 hours streamed, one million wishlists, and has held a long-standing spot in Steam’s Top 30 Most Wishlisted games. It also recently entered the Top 50 Global Best-Selling games on Steam — all before its official launch.

To add to the excitement, the Vanguard Edition launched on June 16th and has sold over 150K units so far, and has over 1M wishlists.

That’s because Broken Arrow plays by different rules.

In fact, in many real-time strategy games, victory often comes down to brute force. Players typically focus on mass-producing units, launching quick assaults, and hoping to overpower the enemy, with little room for genuine tactics or thoughtful planning. It’s all about speed and sheer numbers.

In Broken Arrow, victory isn’t about mindless mass production. It’s about strategy, timing, and precision. Players must read the battlefield, identify the best routes to outflank enemy positions, probe for weaknesses, and craft a winning plan tailored to the moment.

Every unit plays its part. Every move echoes with intent. Only those who can command the tempo of real-time warfare will lead their forces to victory.

Like maestros guiding a grand orchestra, players must harmonize the battlefield’s many voices: the thundering artillery as pounding percussion, armored divisions roaring like trumpets and horns, elite scouts moving as silently as flutes.

With 10 distinct military specializations and over 300 units to choose from, each battle becomes a performance: from the 19-mission single-player campaign to the competitive, high-stakes 5v5 online clashes.

In Broken Arrow, you’re not just leading units en masse in real time — you’re directing a symphony of sharp tactics and precision strategy.

For more information, Broken Arrow is out now on Steam, and here is the F.A.Q. Discussion.

broken-arrowPeacetime is drawing to a close. Tension is rising, planes are scrambling in the air and elite military units begin their offensives in the dark, while millions around the world are buzzing with anticipation, holding their breath. Broken Arrow is almost here.

We’re starting today with the much anticipated launch of the Advanced Access for owners of the Vanguard Edition.

scramble-battle-of-britainA major update has just landed in Scramble: Battle of Britain, and with it comes a new challenge for RAF pilots: the Dornier 17, one of the Luftwaffe’s most iconic twin-engine bombers, is now available as an AI-controlled enemy in the core game!

With the arrival of the Do 17, we’re introducing a brand-new layer of tactical complexity to bomber engagements. Players will encounter this new threat in fresh missions featuring enhanced mechanics and an improved UI that will help to track, intercept, and break up the new enemy formations.

We have reinforced every aspect of bomber intercept missions in Scramble. Pilots may now find bombers escorted by enemy fighters who join the dogfight on a turn delay. Bombers AI will employ evasive maneuvers, and a depleted bomber formation may decide to turn and retreat rather than continue to their objective.

Scramble bombers are now modeled with animated bomb bay doors and slings. Damaged bombers will jettison their payloads before turning for home, and aircraft with multiple stations will bail all their live crew when fatally damaged.

Watch the Do17 in action HERE.

Meet the Dornier 17 and New Enemy Formations

Nicknamed “The Flying Pencil” for its sleek, narrow design, the Dornier 17 was a fast, agile, low-level bomber that caught many RAF airfields off guard in the early stages of the war.

Its maneuverability at low altitudes, combined with multiple defensive gun positions, makes it a serious threat in the sky. A well-coordinated Do 17 formation can saturate the air with suppressive fire, forcing RAF pilots to rely on teamwork, timing, and precision. But don’t stick around too long: enemy fighters will be on your tail, diving in to provide top cover for the bombers.

panzer-corps-2-frontlines-westwallWe’re excited to announce Panzer Corps 2 – Frontlines: Westwall, the next chapter in the Frontlines series, focused on the critical battles along the Siegfried Line between September and December 1944.

After the collapse of German forces in the Falaise Pocket and the liberation of Paris, the Allies turned their attention to the heavily fortified German border. As commander of US Army formations, you’ll lead the charge through fortified zones, dense forests, and urban strongholds, from the outskirts of Aachen to the Saar region in southern Germany.

Frontlines: Westwall introduces a dynamic campaign that evolves in intensity. Early progress will come quickly, but the deeper you advance, the tougher the resistance becomes. The DLC features a wide variety of mission types, fortified enemy positions, and several new units and visual elements to enhance immersion.
