Today, Battlefield Studios launched brand new seasonal content for Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC, with Today’s release of Season 1 – Winter Offensive. This update includes a frozen version of the Empire State map for limited-time game experiences, a Bonus Path containing the new Ice Climbing Axe and much more. The Winter Offensive update also arrives as the REDSEC Elite Series kicks off for top-tier competitive play.

Players can gear up, stay warm, and take complete control of the borough of Brooklyn in Ice Lock, a limited-time visual update to the Empire State map in Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. For this event in Battlefield 6, special versions of Conquest and Domination will be available to play with a Freeze mechanic fully active. With Freeze, areas around the Combat Zone have sub-zero temperatures – over time, a soldier will feel the effects of the Freeze. To avoid being frozen, soldiers can sprint or use an Adrenaline Injector. Alternatively, they can visit designated heat zones around the map to thaw out. This mechanic is only active in specific experiences and is designed to challenge squads to tactically manage resources. Do players risk freezing over to capture a crucial objective or pack enough heat in their loadouts to torch the opposition?

Ice Lock is also coming to REDSEC and will feature a Limited-Time variant in Gauntlet that adds to the experience’s relentless nature with the sheer force of harsh winter conditions. Ice Lock Gauntlet will have a locked set of three missions in every match: Deadlock, Extraction and Wreckage.

With the Winter Offensive Bonus Path players can access a number of new unlockables including the new Ice Climbing Axe and premium customization rewards.

For those mastering Portal, the Winter Offensive update will now be able to use the following new features in their creations allowing more freedom than ever to craft and customize unforgettable experiences.

Set in a fictional 1984 conflict between NATO and the USSR, the game brings the Headquarters formula into a new era of modern warfare, expanded tactical options, and updated battlefield technology.

One of the key additions is the introduction of Utility and Attack Helicopters. These aircraft can fly at low altitude, land to pick up or deploy infantry, and provide new offensive and reconnaissance capabilities. The update also expands the HQ skill trees, introduces new officer abilities, and adjusts overall game balance to better reflect Cold War–era military developments.

A new range of environments, 3D assets, unit models, and UI elements further distinguishes this entry from its World War II predecessor while maintaining the core structure of the Headquarters system.

Gaijin Entertainment announces that the “Line of Contact” major content update for the online military action game War Thunder will launch in late December and will feature closed testing for a completely new mode. This mode focuses on infantry fighting alongside modern ground and air combat vehicles in urban environments. The mode was announced in April 2025, and its open testing is scheduled for 2026. Furthermore, “Line of Contact” will bring new maps and dozens of new vehicles, as well as other improvements and content for existing War Thunder modes.

Infantry battles will take place exclusively on new maps specially created for the new mode. Test participants will be able to fight for two in-game nations (the USA and the USSR/Russia) with pre-installed sets of modern weapons and gear, as well as ground and air vehicles. New maps, nations, and military hardware will regularly be added to the game in the future, just as in other War Thunder modes.

Infantry squads in the Closed Beta will be armed with M4A1, M16A4, M7, AK-74, AK-12, and ASM Val assault rifles; M249 Para and RPK-74M light machine guns; M110A1 SDMR and SVD-M designated marksman rifles; MAC 11 and PP-19 Bizon submachine guns; as well as hand grenades, grenade launchers, MANPADS, reconnaissance drones, and FPV drones. During the Closed Beta, infantry will be supported by M1 Abrams and T-72B tanks, M3A3 Bradley and BMP-3 fighting vehicles, and AH-64A and Mi-24V helicopters.

Blue Dot Games have just unveiled the latest in their Developer Tapes series showcasing different aspects of ‘83, their upcoming 40v40 squad-based tactical first-person shooter set in an alternate 1983 where the Cold War escalated into an all-out conflict. This latest video offers an overview of its two core game modes: Frontlines and Assault. Both demand coordination, communication, and tactical play, but with very different objectives and rulesets.

’83 Developer Tapes #6 – Game Modes

Frontlines is a dynamic two-way mode where players fight to control a linear sequence of objectives stretching across the map. Each team has a fortified home base on opposite ends of the battlefield, operating as primary spawn points for infantry and vehicles. As each team pushes their territorial control forward in real-time, it affects where their squad leaders and commanders can deploy spawn points. Should one of these fall behind enemy lines, it will be removed. Each team starts with a fixed number of respawn tickets, though roles like Squad Leaders or Commanders cost additional tickets. Once a team runs out of tickets, they can no longer respawn.

Each match begins with a team receiving an equal number of objectives that must be completed in a linear sequence, as they claim previously neutral territory. These objectives can branch out, however, allowing opportunities to siege strategic points creating flanking opportunities. Frontlines matches are time-limited, with fallback win conditions determining the outcome if neither team has completed their objective chain.

Assault offers a more focused, asymmetric experience, where one team attacks a series of objectives in a one-way push, while the opposing team defends, similar to the classic “Territories” mode from Rising Storm. Here, the match flows through a linear series of objectives, always starting at the attackers’ base and progressing toward the defenders. Unlike Frontlines, territory doesn’t shift back and forth, but rather once an objective is captured, it becomes locked for the round and the next objective activates.

There are two ways to determine win conditions in an Assault match. If a team runs out of respawn tickets and all their players are eliminated, they lose. If attackers run out of time, the defenders win – unless the final objective is actively contested, in which case the game goes into overtime. Combat continues until the contest is resolved. Assault is played over two rounds, with teams switching sides in the second half. Should each team win one round, a tiebreaker will be initiated.
