New kind of ray tracing technology developed by Wargaming and Intel will improve the visual fidelity of World of Tanks on any PC supporting DirectX 11 and above; even on notebooks with the latest generations of Intel integrated graphics

Introduced in March 2018 as part of Update 1.0, the Core graphics engine significantly improved the visual fidelity of World of Tanks. Now it’s time to move forward and integrate new technologies into the core engine. One of them will be a new form of ray tracing that will bring close to displaying real-life shadows that can be run on any graphics cards that supports DirectX 11. That means that it could be even enabled on the latest notebooks with the latest generations of Intel integrated graphics without a special graphics card with hardware ray tracing support.

The correct implementation of shadows has been one of the industry’s biggest problems for a long time. In Wargaming’s case, it was implementing correct vehicle shadows and being in a constant balance between quality and performance. At one point the vehicles in World of Tanks became more detailed than their shadows and it was time for a change.

Intel had a library called Intel Embree for a long time. It specializes in quick BVH building and has been mostly used in offline applications, the movie industry, computer-animated films and so on. During the collaboration and consulting Intel’s advanced rendering team, Wargaming comes with a solution and implemented the multi-core technology and solutions for concurrent rendering in update 1.4, the Intel Embree technology which took less than a week.

It visually will get close to displaying real-life shadows as they will be sharp or soft in those very places where they should be, as they will try to mimic real-life shadow behavior. “Ray tracing is a true revolution in video game graphics that is happening before our eyes—and we at Wargaming are among the revolutionaries,” says Bronislav Sviglo, World of Tanks Render Team Lead. “The development of ray-traced shadow tech with the help of our partners from Intel is just the beginning. Take a look at the fruits of our labor today—download World of Tanks enCore RT!

These shadows are only the start and much more can be done with the help of this new technology. Realistic reflections ambient occlusion, global illumination and the whole frame, in general, can be generated using it, but billions of rays for one frame need to be processed to do so. Currently no computer can do it in real-time and it will be a long time until it’s possible, but you will be already able to enjoy the ray-traced shadow in World of Tanks in the very near future.

We decided to use World of Tanks enCore as we did before the update 1.0 release. World of Tanks enCore will now let our players try ray tracing in-game, you can already download the World of Tanks enCore RT app. Launch it, adjust the rate tracing quality, check if your computer can handle it and see the visual difference.

From October 15, World of Tanks enCore RT will be available to download at: https://wotencore.net/en-eu/

Take a look at the video where those behind the ray tracing tech explain how it works.

aorus-cv27f-165hz-curved-monitorBy Christian Eberle @ Tom’s Hardware

The Aorus CV27F 27-inch display is a VA panel with a 1500R curvature and a 165 Hz refresh rate (without overclock). With FreeSync 2, you can even enjoy HDR content with an older AMD graphics card, like the AMD Radeon R9 285 we have in one of our test rigs. No, it won’t run HDR at 3840 x 2160 above 30 frames per second (fps) like some of the best 4K gaming monitors. But it can run HDR right up to 165 fps at 1920 x 1080. And the price is far more attractive too. The Aorus CV27F sells for around $350 at this writing. And while it won’t quite deliver the image quality of something like the Asus PG27UQ, a $1,500 HDR gaming monitor with a full array backlight with local dimming, it sells for less than a quarter of the price.

ghost-recon-breakpointUbisoft’s latest tale of Ghosts is an overly familiar romp with too many pieces that don’t work together for an ultimately disjointed open-world shooter

By Brandin Tyrrel @ IGN

Taken at face value, Ghost Recon Breakpoint has been assembled from all the pieces it needs to be a success. And that’s its biggest problem. Ubisoft’s entire open-world playbook has been dumped in, alongside many of the games-as-service elements you’d expect to find in a game you’re intended to play for a long time. There are just too many ideas crammed in without a reason to exist and too many annoying bugs and glitches to get a consistent feel for what Breakpoint is aiming to be. It contradicts its good first impression with its reliance on an all-too-familiar shoot-and-loot formula and a collect-a-thon that wears out its welcome before the end.

asrock-z390-phantom-gaming-7-moboBy Gavin Bonshor @ AnandTech

The battle between Intel and AMD fighting over market share is hotter than it has ever been. With each of the two colossal chip makers doing battle for brand supremacy, we’ve seen two primary desktop chipsets set the standard in the world of desktop motherboards; the Z390 and X570 chipsets. While the Z390 market is now mature, ASRock launched two new motherboards into its Intel Z390 product stack, and today we are taking a look at one of them, the ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 7. With a feature set spearheaded by a 2.5 GbE port, it sits between the ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 9 and Z390 Phantom Gaming 6, aiming for a more mid-range user.

thermaltake-a700-aluminium-tg-edition-caseBy Peter Donnell @ eTeknix

Just recently, we brought you a review of the lovely Thermaltake S500 TG Edition Case. Now, we’re back again with something (amazingly) even more premium than that! The Thermaltake A700 Aluminium TG Edition. That’s right, aluminium and tempered glass from Thermaltake; watch out Lian Li, the TT team are coming for ya! Plus, if you thought the S500 TG was big, which it was, then guess what? The A700 is even bigger! it’s easily one of the bulkiest ATX cases I’ve ever had in the office, so make sure you take some measurements before you order it.
