83Blue Dot Games has unveiled a new Developer Tapes video for ‘83, revealing how real-time strategy mechanics elevate its upcoming 40v40 squad-based tactical FPS. Set in an alternate 1983 where the Cold War escalated into global conflict, the latest showcase focuses on the Commander role – a strategic position focused on battlefield oversight, tactical decision-making and team coordination. The video offers an in-depth look at how this RTS-inspired system enhances teamwork and reshapes multiplayer engagements.

‘83 Developer Tapes #7 – Commanders

In ‘83, every team has the option for a single Commander. These leaders spend the majority of their time in the overhead command view, controlling the battle like a real-time strategy game; managing squads, deploying abilities, and reading the flow of combat from above. As a Commander, your first order of business is to set up a command post, where you can see squad positions, objectives, enemy markers, and key updates in real time. Think of it as your war room, everything important flows through this interface. From here, you can send attack or defend orders, or place waypoints on the map telling your soldiers where to go. Furthermore, Commanders have a dedicated Commander VOIP channel, available only to them and squad leaders, which can be used to issue orders and plan strategy without the distraction of general team chatter.

In addition to issuing squad orders, Commanders can call in a variety of support options like artillery and rocket barrages to clear areas or suppress enemies, smoke shells to block enemy lines of sight, reconnaissance aircraft that reveal enemy positions from high altitude, or a reinforcement wave tool to call in an instant respawn for your whole team. Abilities cost resources like fuel or munitions and have cooldowns, so timing and prioritization are key. Ultimately, playing the Commander is about situational awareness, team coordination, and tactical decision-making. You influence the shape of the battlefield, direct the momentum of each push, and guide your team toward victory…or defeat.

battlefield-6Electronic Arts Inc. and Battlefield Studios today launched Season 2 across Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. Season 2 sends the fight to Europe with two new maps, limited-time modes, and much more, rolling out across three seasonal phases beginning today.

Launching across Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC, Season 2 introduces two all-new maps, Contaminated, a large-scale map set in a once-vibrant forest now scarred by experimental weapons and heavy shelling, alongside Hagental Base, a military facility that becomes the stage for intense close-quarters combat and stealth-focused gameplay later in the season.

BATTLEFIELD 6 OFFICIAL SEASON 2 GAMEPLAY TRAILER

Phase 1: Extreme Measures, begins today with the debut of Contaminated, and the introduction of VL-7, a new limited-time experience built around psychoactive smoke intensifying combat. These smoke clouds blanket key areas of the map, disorienting players with immersive hallucinations and forcing squads to adapt in real time.

On March 17, Phase 2: Nightfall takes the battle to the deepest depths of a military facility called Hagental Base. Tied to this phase’s theme, a limited time mode brings darkness to the map, where blacked out corridors create a stealth driven experience. Players gain access to Night Vision Goggles, allowing squads to navigate the darkness and gain the tactical advantage. Nightfall will also arrive in Battlefield REDSEC with a dedicated Gauntlet playlist.

Season 2 concludes on April 17 with Phase 3: Hunter & Prey, introducing Operation Augur, a limited-time mode across both Contaminated and Hagental Base. Inspired by Battlefield 1’s Operations mode, this is Battlefield at its most cinematic, with emphasis on large-scale objectives, sustained momentum, and squad coordination over the course of an extended campaign.

Additional Season 2 highlights include new weapons, vehicles, gadgets, and customization options rolling out across all three phases, along with a new Battle Pass and store content.

Battlefield 6 and REDSEC are available on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam™, EA App, Epic Games Store).

f-22-air-dominance-fighterThe golden age of combat flight simulation returns today. F-22: Air Dominance Fighter is now available on Steam, published by MicroProse and originally developed by Digital Image Design.

First released in 1997 and widely regarded as one of the defining combat flight sims of its era, F-22: Air Dominance Fighter blended deep avionics modelling and a dynamic battlefield with accessibility and immediacy. It allowed players not only to pilot the world’s most advanced jet fighter, but also to command the wider air war through its pioneering AWACS mode—observing the theatre in real time, vectoring aircraft, and jumping directly into the cockpit of any F-22 when needed.

Now, this landmark simulation returns—faithfully preserved, carefully enhanced, and fully compatible with modern systems.

The Steam release remains true to the original design philosophy while introducing meaningful upgrades for today’s audience:

  • Full 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DoF) head tracking, allowing players to look, lean, roll, and move naturally within the cockpit
  • Flexible visual presentation, from authentic 320×200 retro resolutions to crisp, anti-aliased 4K Ultra HD
  • 17 achievements, adding new replay challenges and creative objectives
  • Modding support, empowering the community and extending the life of the game
  • Nearly 100 fixes and improvements compared to the 1997 version, ensuring stability and smooth performance on modern PCs
  • Head tracking support uses the TrackIR API and works with a wide range of tracking solutions, including TrackIR and OpenTrack-based setups.
  • The elements that made F-22: Air Dominance Fighter a standout in 1997 are fully intact:

  • Over 90 missions across seven campaigns, quick combat scenarios, and training missions
  • A vast 4.5 million square kilometre Red Sea theatre, with air, land, and sea units operating dynamically in real time
  • A fully integrated AWACS command mode, offering unprecedented battlefield control
  • Deep yet accessible avionics, radar systems, and flight modelling
  • More than 50 enemy types and 30 weapons systems spanning air-to-air and air-to-ground combat
  • Upon its original release, the game was celebrated for pushing the boundaries of combat flight simulation, earning critical acclaim and a devoted following. Its combination of systemic depth, large-scale warfare, and player agency helped define what many still consider the golden era of PC flight sims.

With its release on Steam, F-22: Air Dominance Fighter invites both veteran pilots and a new generation of players to experience a defining chapter in flight simulation history.
