Broken Arrow

broken-arrowThe new Broken Arrow Patch – out now – focuses on strengthening protection against cheaters while improving overall stability and balance.

Since launch, developer Steel Balalaika and publisher Slitherine have worked tirelessly to listen to community feedback and ensure the best possible gameplay experience. The fight against unfair play has now taken a major step forward with the introduction of the Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) system. Working alongside the existing internal anti-cheat system, EAC offers players two launch options when starting Broken Arrow:

  • Launch Offline (without EAC) – Designed for players who prefer a single-player experience and do not plan to participate in online modes.
  • Launch Broken Arrow (with EAC activated) – Grants access to all multiplayer features and team-based battles.
  • This is the most significant change introduced by the update, but it’s not the only one. As a special Halloween treat, a brand new zombie scenario has been added, inspired by a workshop creation from community member Joining Player. It can be played by 1 to 4 players in co-op mode, and features a unique visual and sound atmosphere designed specifically for the map. Players will face off against different types of zombies and command various forces to fight them in an intense and immersive survival experience.

Alongside this, several smaller changes have been made:

  • Introduction of support for server-side network architecture
  • Mission Editor improvements
  • Balance adjustments
  • Bug fixes
  • To know more about all the improvements read the changelog here.

broken-arrowJune 2025 saw the launch of Broken Arrow, and with thousands of copies sold, this is just the beginning for developer Steel Balalaika Studio and publisher Slitherine, who have both been hard at work perfecting the ‘Everyone Fights!’ Update 1.0.10, available now for Broken Arrow via Steam.

Watch the Broken Arrow Update 1.0.10 – “Everyone Fights!” Trailer HERE.

What is coming with Update 1.0.10?

Player feedback continues to be crucial and is meticulously monitored by Steel Balalaika and Slitherine teams. The point of players leaving matches with no consequence is one that is flagged most notably, and will no longer be an issue with this latest game patch.

In the standard matchmaking mode, a system of progressive penalties is in place, meaning that if a player quits a match with no reconnection, a temporary ban will be in place from joining new matches. Each repeated violation will increase the penalty duration, ranging from 2 minutes for the first offence up to 3 hours for systematic leavers.

With this new system, Broken Arrow aims to reduce the number of matches where teams are left at obvious disadvantages, ultimately making the battles a more enjoyable gameplay experience for everyone involved.

This isn’t the only upgrade in 1.0.10, far from it. Alongside deserter penalties, Broken Arrow will also see the implementation of the surrender option mode. When victory is long past the horizon and only defeat remains, players can look to end matches early with this option, allowing them to move on to the next match and put their focus into new battles.

The surrender option also grants players greater control over the flow of a match and the time spent in each foray. This mode will be available in all current game mode inclusions and allows teams to end a battle on their own terms, without the additional penalties. The match is simply recorded as a loss for one side and a victory for the other.

    Other 1.0.10 changes:

On top of the aforementioned improvements, Broken Arrow will also receive an abundance of amendments, bug fixes, brand new dynamic battle music, new and improved models for certain units, several new customisation options, and improved controls. Other highlights include:

    Balance Improvement

    · New tools to analyse player habits

    · Factions’ win rates rebalance

    · US Specialisations interoperability improvements

    New Models

    · Improved models for BMD-4 family of vehicles

    · Upgraded armor customisation

    · M4A1 URG-I Rifle

The battle pushes on, and so does Broken Arrow. Future updates will see further performance enhancements based on player feedback, and the developers will continue to iron out issues and improve overall factors of the game.

broken-arrowPublisher Slitherine and Developer Steel Balalaika are proud to announce that players can now conduct their army to victory: the most wishlisted RTS is deploying today on Steam.

Watch the Broken Arrow Release Trailer HERE.

The success of Broken Arrow precedes its release, with highly successful pre-launch beta tests and over half a million players already registered and ready for battle. The game has accumulated more than 380,000 hours watched on Twitch, 7,000 hours streamed, one million wishlists, and has held a long-standing spot in Steam’s Top 30 Most Wishlisted games. It also recently entered the Top 50 Global Best-Selling games on Steam — all before its official launch.

To add to the excitement, the Vanguard Edition launched on June 16th and has sold over 150K units so far, and has over 1M wishlists.

That’s because Broken Arrow plays by different rules.

In fact, in many real-time strategy games, victory often comes down to brute force. Players typically focus on mass-producing units, launching quick assaults, and hoping to overpower the enemy, with little room for genuine tactics or thoughtful planning. It’s all about speed and sheer numbers.

In Broken Arrow, victory isn’t about mindless mass production. It’s about strategy, timing, and precision. Players must read the battlefield, identify the best routes to outflank enemy positions, probe for weaknesses, and craft a winning plan tailored to the moment.

Every unit plays its part. Every move echoes with intent. Only those who can command the tempo of real-time warfare will lead their forces to victory.

Like maestros guiding a grand orchestra, players must harmonize the battlefield’s many voices: the thundering artillery as pounding percussion, armored divisions roaring like trumpets and horns, elite scouts moving as silently as flutes.

With 10 distinct military specializations and over 300 units to choose from, each battle becomes a performance: from the 19-mission single-player campaign to the competitive, high-stakes 5v5 online clashes.

In Broken Arrow, you’re not just leading units en masse in real time — you’re directing a symphony of sharp tactics and precision strategy.

For more information, Broken Arrow is out now on Steam, and here is the F.A.Q. Discussion.

broken-arrowSlitherine has released a Dev Blog announcing the Special Op Forces in the upcoming RTS game Broken Arrow, due to be released in June 2025. You can watch the Broken Arrow – Special Forces Trailer HERE. Read the entire Dev Blog featuring many new screens from the game HERE.

The Special Operations Forces distinguish themselves from the regular military units by their training to accomplish raids on high value targets, often located behind enemy lines, rather than frontally attacking the enemy forces.

The success of these operations relies on 3 main factors: speed, stealth and a high level of support proportionally to the number of soldiers involved.
And in Broken Arrow, this army specialization is the embodiment of these principles:

Hard hitting infantry coming from the various Special forces groups and the 75th Ranger regiment, equipped with the latest weapons, airdropped or transported by fast vehicles and helicopters from the 160th SOAR (special operations aviation regiment), and supported by stealth drones and planes.

broken-arrowSlated to launch in June 2025 and currently the most wishlisted RTS game on Steam, already boasting half a million players who’ve passionately participated in previous multiplayer open betas, Broken Arrow is set to make waves in the real-time strategy genre. Promising to deliver a unique army-building system and deep unit customization tools allowing for endless replayability, each battle will be truly unique and immersive.

Joining the roster is The Stryker Cavalry Regiment. Its mobile units allow for unparalleled pace and lethality, striking opponents with precision, while its armored infantry units bring the firepower deadliness.

Comprising Stryker vehicles, M10 Bookers, truck-based units, plus additional infantry and air support, this specialization deck offers a more transportable force to strike a balance between heavy sheathing and foot soldiers.

In Broken Arrow, the Stryker Cavalry Regiment truly embodies the balance between speed and density. The speed of the Strykers is inferior to the lighter transports of the airborne specialization, but it makes up for this with sheer vigor. Combined with the light-footed ground units, this regiment is frankly a force to be reckoned with.

A deeper dive into The Stryker Cavalry Regiment can be found in this developer deep dive on Steam.

broken-arrowSlitherine and Steel Balalaika announce that the release date of Broken Arrow, originally planned for a 2024 launch, had been moved to 2025.

Marco Alessandro Minoli, Director of Publishing, stated: “The game won’t be releasing this year as intended, but we felt it was necessary. This decision is motivated by our desire to fully meet our community’s expectations, to ensure that Broken Arrow is the best game of its kind and that it provides a flawless experience to its players. To achieve this, we needed to run more extensive testing and iterate on improving the code efficiency. We don’t want to underestimate any potential issue and we’d rather wait than risk letting anyone down on day one. The development team has been hard at work and we can’t wait to show you what is new for the game“.

The publisher acknowledged that this will disappoint many players and members of the game community, but there is some good news for them as well: a new multiplayer Open Beta will be available for everyone to play on November 12th. Throughout the entire month of October, Broken Arrow fans can expect weekly developer diaries on the Steam page, which will highlight all the latest updates and showcase the content available in the beta, including new units, specializations, maps, and features.

Furthermore, fans can expect an important reveal of Broken Arrow in December, which would also be the occasion for a very special announcement.

Slitherine, the publisher, and Steel Balalaika, the developer team, promise to players that their patience will be rewarded: “We think we have an amazing game on our hands and we are certain that you won’t be disappointed“.

broken-arrowMatrix Games is pleased to announce the release of a new Developers Diary for the upcoming game Broken Arrow.

We have previously discussed vehicles and helicopters, and it’s now time to shed some light on the oldest weapon platform of them all: the infantryman.

Infantry has a very important role in Broken Arrow because it has the upper hand over vehicles and helicopters in entire sections of the battlefield.

Infantry is inherently a very defensive type of unit: it moves slowly, it is difficult to detect and hard to dislodge from urban, wooded or mountainous terrain. Attacking infantry with vehicles in these types of terrain is like asking for a beating. It requires intensive indirect fire support for suppression and your own infantry to progress. If enemy artillery starts sticking its nose into this already messy situation it can lead to a long and costly stalemate. So it’s generally advised to move around that kind of defensive position if possible.

The basic infantry squads generally come with a set of rifles, light machine guns and grenade launchers to fight against other infantry squads and they usually carry short range anti tank weapons.
