field-of-glory-2-legions-triumphantAfter the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC, the Roman Republic found itself in mortal danger. The infighting that followed eventually saw the end of the Republic and the birth of the Principate, with Octavianus Augustus sole ruler of the newly-established Roman Empire.

Victory after victory, the Empire slowly expanded, reaching its maximum extent in 117 AD. But dominance couldn’t be held forever. Internal and external threats undermined stability in the centuries that followed. To ease administration, the empire was eventually divided into western and eastern halves, each with its own emperor. Under the constant pressure of large Germanic confederations, the western half eventually collapsed, and in 476 AD the last western emperor was deposed.

In Legions Triumphant, the new exciting DLC for Field of Glory II, you can be part of the final conquests of the Roman Empire in Britain, Germany and Dacia, witnessing the Pax Romana when the legions on the frontier mostly kept at bay the barbarians to the north and first the Parthians, then the Sassanid Persians, in the east.

Relive the final disintegration of Western Roman power under pressure from the Germans and Goths (themselves attempting to outdistance the rising power of the Huns), and the desperate attempts of 5th century leaders to hold at bay the barbarian tide, using armies at least partly consisting of barbarian troops.

Legions Triumphant follows the development of the Roman Imperial Army through its heyday, its late 3rd century AD reorganisation to deal with new threats, and subsequent decline. It also follows the rise of its various enemies, the Germans and Goths, the Sassanid Persians and the dreaded Huns. Play as the Romans or as one of their many enemies.

Field of Glory II: Legions Triumphant brings you 10 new factions (Alans, Anglo-Saxons, Caledonians, Goths, Hephthalites, Huns, Palmyrans, Picts, Romano-British and Sassanid Persians); 17 new units (including Legio Comitatensis, Auxilia Palatina, Pictish Spearmen and the Fierce Hunnic Nomad Horse Archers), and 22 new Army Lists!

In addition, this expansion adds numerous improvements and changes to the campaign system, with 4 new historically-based campaigns, the ability to name your units, to fight on after a lost battle and many more!

Wherever you look, it seems the cost of today’s PC components are increasing at a steady rate. You could call it the Brexit effect, or consumerism gone wrong, but the point is, you can spend well over a thousand pounds on a new PC and still end up with modest, entry-level components.

But are there still bargains to be had from lesser-known brands? Chinese manufacturer Deepcool has been championing budget parts for a number of years, and is now attempting to tackle three modern trends – tempered glass, liquid cooling and RGB lighting – in a single package priced from £120. Enter the Gamer Storm Baronkase Liquid chassis.

AMD has released the WHQL version of its Radeon Software Adrenalin 18.2.1 Beta drivers, which the company had introduced just five days ago. There’s no apparent difference between this driver version and the previously released one, other than the WHQL certification – this might mean some additional stability in the new driver release compared to its Beta version, though mileage may vary.

Just as a friendly reminder, the Radeon Software Adrenalin 18.2.1 drivers add support for Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, while fixing a number of bugs with FreeSync and the Vulkan API, among others.

The new Radeon Software Adrenalin 18.2.1 WHQL drivers are available online at the AMD driver download page.

A post on the Battlefield Website has an update on EA’s ongoing battle against Battlefield 1 cheaters. They address concerns they’ve heard voiced by players and talk about current and future efforts to weed out miscreants. Here’s a bit:

State of Play: Removing Cheaters

Over the past six months, we’ve steadily ramped up our anti-cheat efforts, working closely with the FairFight team to detect and remove more cheaters than ever before. In October alone, we sanctioned over 8,500 accounts. Since then, instances of cheating have declined. While we have made significant gains, we still can do more.

Improvements to FairFight In-game Messaging

Battlefield 1 veterans may remember the global messaging that was sent every time FairFight had acted against a player. As we ramped up our efforts against cheaters, these messages became a distraction from other in-game discussions, and they were disabled a few months ago based on your feedback. However, our communication about this created some questions. Going forward, our communication will be more clear, transparent, and proactive.

Soon, you’ll see a new form of FairFight messaging. This will condense the combined bans from the last 24 hours into a single in-game post, sent every few hours.

How and When a Player Gets Sanctioned

We saw a rise in the number of social media posts claiming FairFight had banned players incorrectly after the October ban wave mentioned above. However, we are confident that our detection methods produce accurate results. Cheat developers may be attempting to manipulate players’ minds about anti-cheat tools, and to leverage detection information from game developers.

A common misconception regarding FairFight is that higher skilled players are more likely to get sanctioned due to their improved match stats. This is not correct; it is not possible to be banned simply for being skilled.

There is a recent rumour that Call of Duty 2018 will be named Black Ops 4. The upcoming installment in the COD Series will be developed by Treyarch. The report seems to have surfaced via twitter user @Marcus_Sellars, where he states “COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to PS4/Xbox/PC/Switch.”

The full tweet is as follows;

COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to PS4/Xbox/PC/Switch. It is set in the modern times and is boots on the ground. The Switch version will support DLC, HD Rumble and motion controls. The Switch version is also being ported by a company which is familar with COD games.

Usually we take rumours with a pinch of salt, however Marcus has been correct on several of his leaks in the past. He’s previously correctly announced that Dark Souls and Labo were coming to the Nintendo Switch.

It appears that one company which are familiar with both previous Nintendo systems and Call of Duty titles, is Beenox. They have had involvement in Treyarch’s latest title, Black Ops 3 and Modern Warfare Remastered. Not long ago they posted a tweet hinting at an upcoming Switch port.
