Editorial: Game Addicts Contribute to Economic Recovery

It's all about the economy, stupid. How addicted gamers are contributing to the rebirth of capitalism.

Do you ever tire of hearing the mainstream media, major newspapers, and members of the non-gaming press relentlessly slamming people who play games? I do, which is why I might be heard to occasionally refer to some of them as, say, pointy-headed intellectuals or, even more fitting, misinformed windbags.

If video and computer games aren't making us fat, lazy, or violent -- or maybe even a juicy combination of all three! -- then they're responsible for turning people into idiots and helpless slaves, mindlessly staring at computer terminals all day and incapable of thinking or making rational decisions for themselves. At least, that's the story of games as reported by the media. Granted, I've seen people in that very condition in the past, but they were checking out the latest episode of Rock of Love, not playing a city building simulation or plotting their next move in Civilization IV (it's apparently much too risky to do both at the same time).
