MechWarrior 4
by Raul “Datajack” Rodriguez

CSIM: In MW3, there was no control over the skills of the MechWarriors in your Lance. Will there be a way of seeing the strengths and weaknesses of the MechWarriors under the player's control?

Mike: The characters in MW4 will be more fleshed out than previous MechWarrior titles. There will be a skill system for characters in the game, including lancemates. As the story evolves, so will the abilities of the warriors in it.

How you use your MechWarriors will determine what skills they receive. The player will know the strengths and weaknesses of his allies and be able to select the right MechWarrior for the job, assuming they are still alive!

CSIM: There is mention that there is a "Dynamic Mission Structure". Could you explain exactly what this means?

Mike: The campaign structure of MW4 is composed of related nodes, as you battle to take back a region of your world. The player is free to choose the direction and strategies employed in each of these operations.

You are the commander of this revolution and by "Dynamic" we mean that the decisions you make now will effect your position in the battles to come. The order in which you choose the missions, and their outcome will affect the story and future resources available.

CSIM: It looks like COMMs will play a part in MW4 in the form of increased radio chatter. Has the COMMs between the player and his Lancemates been enhanced? Will he be able to give more robust orders to his lancemates like "Attack my target's legs". How will orders be issued? Is the same interface from MW3 (F11 key) be implemented?

Mike: There will be more communication between the player and his world than previous Mech titles. The interface will be improved and allow you to better command multiple Lancemates while in the heat of battle. The characters you control will intelligently respond to your commands, if you have damaged an enemy's legs your teammates will act appropriately when asked to attack.
