We gaze down south for a look at one of the mightiest American civilizations.

One of the civilizations we introduced back in the Conquerors expansion for Age 2 was the Aztecs. We loved them then, and we love them now. They were a mighty people, civilized yet warlike. Their saga and ultimate fate is one of the most compelling stories to take place during the colonization of the New World. While the Aztecs did not last long into the Spanish colonization of Mexico, the echoes of their power and glory are still with us. The Spanish themselves credited the Aztecs with amazing courage - their veterans reported that it was more difficult to withstand an Aztec charge than to face massed European artillery.
