FALCON 4.0: Operation "TIGERSPIRIT"
by Dr. Stefan "Bluefire" Linke, Tom "Tiger" Moelter, CAG of the 1st G.U.N.S. "Richthofen" and Jeff "Rhino" Babineau, C/O of the 209th "Deltahawks"

Assault on Uiju

Tiger and I had prepared a OCA Strike against Uiju Airbase which still wasn't completely shut down until then. Uiju Airbase, similar to Onch´on Airbase was the Achilles' heel of our campaign for the DPRK handled much of their cargo traffic via this airbase. So if there was a chance to knock it out, these guys would do it, we were quite sure.

The problem in our campaign is that we are meanwhile fighting against DPRK, the Russians AND the Chinese and that our 7th Air Carrier Group has nearly completely run out of support. Yet we have plenty of bases on the ground in which some dozen F-16's, F-15's, F-111, B-52's, and further units are operating very well. And our ground units really move northern (see Map 1: Ground Situation). Flying the Falcon now for nearly 2 years I have nowhere seen a similar campaign in other Internet squadrons and neither had the Deltahawks.

Map 2: Still a lot of foe action around Uiju Airbase!

Map 3: These damn IL-76/78 carrying support from Russian and Chinese airports to the flot

As you can see from Map 2: Air Situation, the problem was the great cluster of hostile SU-27, Mig29 and Fishbeds east of Uiju. The Commanding Air Group (CAG) of the 1st G.U.N.S. had decided to attack UiJu with feet wet in a combined strike of four F-111's flown by Bigfoot, Tango, Velcro and Yoda launching from Taegu Airbase in the very South. Soon they got some escort by F-18's (Gonzo with Vibe) from Suweon airbase in the East, and finally a SEAD mission by four F-16 flown by Rhino, Axle, Maestro and Tiger launching from Kimpo International. So there were ten fully human-piloted planes in the air. As you can see in Map 3, the whole Gorilla formation met at Waypoint 3 and I as Magic (AWACS) had much work to do to keep them on course and watch out for the bandits. The Reds somehow soon got an idea of what was going on and we got some early action. And the F-18 reacted soon.

After the SEAD and Escort cleared the area, the AWACS gave the order for the F-111's to buster on to target. Up to then, the F-111's were circling at over 20,000 feet telling jokes. Once the command was received it was 700 knots at 300 feet to the target. The F-111 pilots arrived at the target untouched due to the efforts of their comrades, so Bigfoot & Tango took out the right Runway and Velcro & Yoda took out the left, reducing the base to 0% effectiveness. Unfortunately, while egressing all aircraft blew up as if a Nuke went off, the game switched to the "Fly-in View". Since the airbase was gone, I decided it was a success and to move on to the next missions. All of you doing campaign flights, I can only recommend the F-111 as a superb bomber. Its agility and speed make it a powerful weapon.

On Air - The strike runs in with 4 F-111s: Bigfoot, Tango, Yoda, Velcro
