Review: Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB 1866MHz CL10 Memory

Posted by Donster on: 2014-05-02 15:44:49 in category: System Memory News [ Print ]

By Kenny @ PureOC

Kingston Technologies have been in the memory business over two decades and are known for their reliable and fast memory. Today we are going to be looking at Kingston's new HyperX line called "Fury". This new Fury line from Kingston will position itself against its current mainstream HyperX Genesis and high-end HyperX Predator lines. The HyperX Fury pretty much lines up with its competitor from Corsair the Vengeance line. This will give consumers more options and widens that market share. The Fury line was not designed to be the best of the best, but is meant to meet that middle line between your beginning users and the higher-end clients. We have speeds ranging from 1333MHz to 1866Mhz which will be available in 8GB single sticks or 8GB to 16GB kits. Let's put the Kingston HyperX Furry DDR3 1866MHz kit we got for review to the test and see how well it performs.

Last month Intel launched their new "Haswell" range of CPUs, a refresh of their midrange processors and that signaled an opportunity for other manufacturers to release new products designed to take advantage of the new range. That meant new motherboards based on chipsets such as the Z87 and a few of those have proven to be very impressive indeed.

To go with our new Intel Haswell/4th Gen Core CPU and high end Z87 board we also need a bunch of high end memory and that is exactly what G.Skill look to provide with their Trident X 2933MHz sticks.

Review: Kingston HyperX DDR3 2400 and DDR3 1600 LoVo Memory

Posted by Donster on: 2010-05-24 18:02:25 in category: System Memory News [ Print ]

By Stuart Davidson @ HardwareHeaven

Back in 2008 when Intel released the Core i7 family they completely changed the way memory worked on their platform. Firstly they brought the memory controller onto the CPU but more importantly they set a maximum limit of 1.65v on modules, far below the industry standard of 1.8-2.0v which existed at the time. Over time all of the major memory manufacturers brought out modules which met that specification and more recently we have seen some modules hit well over 2000MHz on this lower voltage; something few could have imagined 3-4 years ago. Today we have one such kit on our test bench, Kingston's HyperX DDR3-2400 which give huge potential memory bandwidth.

Kingston don't just do extreme speed though, they also produce a very interesting product further down their catalogue. Their LoVo sticks offer some very competitive performance at settings far below the reference 1.65v.

Today we will see how each set performs in a selection of synthetic and real world tests.

Review: Corsair DOMINATOR DDR3-2,000 CL7 6GB

Posted by Donster on: 2009-02-18 14:37:14 in category: System Memory News [ Print ]

Author: Tarinder Sandhu @ HEXUS

The standard-bearer for Corsair's Core i7 line-up, DOMINATOR GT will only be available directly from Corsair, through its brand-new Performance Shop: an online portal for purchasing some of the company's flagship wares. Built using the aforementioned Elpida Hyper ICs, we're informed that the modules go through a rigorous screening, build, and testing process to ensure operation at 2GHz with 1.65V (or less).

Knowing this, the reasoning behind releasing them directly makes implicit sense, as Corsair won't sell - or, indeed, be able to manufacture - enough modules to make it worthwhile for an eclectic range of retail partners to hold stock. Rather, focused wholly on the die-hard enthusiast or supremely well-heeled consumer who wants the best of everything, Corsair reckons it can provide better support for truly cutting-edge components, and we kind of agree.

The point here is not to validate Corsair selling directly, but, logically and objectively, pointing out the need, if you will, of selling super-high-end, expensive components with the greatest support level in place.

With a little background out of the way, let's take a peek at the modules.
