Review: DDR3 Tri-Channel Roundup

By Stuart Davidson @ DriverHeaven
In the past few months it has been clear that memory manufacturers have mastered high specification triple channel kits with those like Corsairs Dominator-GT really impressing us. So today we have two more kits on our test bench from OCZ and G.Skill, both of which are capable of running at 2000MHz. Added to this we have a set of memory from Kingston which is one of the few that favours volume over extreme speed, their product gives us three 4GB sticks in one kit for a total of 12GB.

Review: A-Data 6GB Triple Channel PC3-12800 C8 Memory

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn @ GURU3D
We mentioned this a couple of times already, but the memory market is fierce and competitive. All manufacturers are competing with each other on some level. Some go for the crown in high-end performance, others for the most low-budget memory one can sell, and then there's mainstream. Probably the biggest market out there. Especially with the release of Intel's Core i7 processors, a new battleground created itself. In the past weeks we tested many high-end kits in a triple channel configuration. A-Data recently released their DDR3-1600+ series memory. This review kit is in particular a 6GB kit triple channel memory kit that is rated PC3 12800 and comes with a nice CAS 8 latency and a price of just 21 USD per gigabyte.

Review: Corsair DOMINATOR DDR3-2,000 CL7 6GB
Posted by Donster on: 2009-02-18 14:37:14 in category: System Memory News [ Print ]
Author: Tarinder Sandhu @ HEXUS
The standard-bearer for Corsair's Core i7 line-up, DOMINATOR GT will only be available directly from Corsair, through its brand-new Performance Shop: an online portal for purchasing some of the company's flagship wares. Built using the aforementioned Elpida Hyper ICs, we're informed that the modules go through a rigorous screening, build, and testing process to ensure operation at 2GHz with 1.65V (or less).
Knowing this, the reasoning behind releasing them directly makes implicit sense, as Corsair won't sell - or, indeed, be able to manufacture - enough modules to make it worthwhile for an eclectic range of retail partners to hold stock. Rather, focused wholly on the die-hard enthusiast or supremely well-heeled consumer who wants the best of everything, Corsair reckons it can provide better support for truly cutting-edge components, and we kind of agree.
The point here is not to validate Corsair selling directly, but, logically and objectively, pointing out the need, if you will, of selling super-high-end, expensive components with the greatest support level in place.
With a little background out of the way, let's take a peek at the modules.

Have Memory Manufacturers Dropped The Ball?
By Thomas Soderstrom @ Tom's Hardware
Core i7 is breaking memory bandwidth records, but it’s taken a while for memory manufacturers to combine speed and capacity with moderate voltage levels. We’ve tested twelve 6.0 GB kits to find the best solution.

Thanks to the lowered pricing of memory these days, it's not uncommon for relatively unknown companies to throw down the gauntlet for the bigger boys and this is a good thing, as it keeps the market leaders on their toes at the very least. With that in mind, today I have a kit entitled the XTune from Aeneon which is interestingly a subsidiary of Qimonda, the chip makers. Their reputation has always been relatively good when it came to memory chips, so how will their own brand of kit stand up to the flack? Let's find out.

Over the last year or so, the price of DDR2 memory has completely bottomed out, meaning many gamers and hardware enthusiasts have stuck with it, and by and large ignored the newer technology, DDR3. However, as prices of the new range start to come down, people are taking more of an interest. Today I have a kit from a little known company called as CSX, who've been kind enough to let us test their Diablo kit. A 2GB, 2GHZ pair of sticks, that come with a huge heatsink, with D9 chips underneath. Can they reach their rated 2000MHZ speed? Let's find out.

If you're spending your hard earned cash on the new DDR3 standard, then you expect nothing short of stable, dependable performance whether you're using a 32-bit or 64-bit system. The memory must be reliable if you just play games or if your system is a serious number crunching SETI beast. The Patriot Viper 4GB PC3-12800 Dual Channel Memory Kit thoroughly tested here offered nothing short of those expectations. The memory is fully backward compatible with your 1066 MHz and 1333 MHz Core 2 series Intel processors. The extra performance gained from the memory's timings at lower 6-6-6-18 setting should be a pleasant bonus which also equates to plenty of bandwidth.

The Crucial Ballistix DDR3 PC3-12800 2GB Dual Channel Kit is a great performer in its on right. The kit's XMP profiles allow a user the best of both worlds in case the motherboard in use just isn't up to par with the lower 7-7-7-24 memory timings. If that's the issue, then the default 8-8-8-24 timings will allow a much greater chance of achieving perfect system stability.
