Review: EVGA X58 Classified - Trophy Board
Posted by Donster on: 2009-05-08 15:35:15 in category: Motherboards [ Print ]
Author: Rajinder Gill @ AnandTech
Our retail board arrived last week and now we aim to tie up the loose ends we left in our first look using the engineering sample (ES) board. The loose ends revolve around cooling, additional heavy OC stuff (for the intended audience), and functionality.
It is an interesting product and one we cannot put down long enough to write a ten thousand-word diatribe for it. This board is a beast; it makes no apologies for its cost, its purpose, or in your face configuration. It only asks that you have enough knowledge about overclocking to get the most out of it. That really is the crux of this board as it is all about overclocking.

Today the turn goes to the folks from Jetway. A company that you do not hear often from. They are rather sizable in OEM production and deliver a lot of material towards other motherboard and graphics card 'manufacturers'. But they handle retail products as well though. Their somewhat more exclusive motherboard series is tagged as 'Hummer' series. Which always brings a smile to my face as I immediately have to think about that big ass military car. Today we look at the Jetway Hummer HA08-LF motherboard. Armed with a lot of features, performance and an AMD 790GX chipset. There fairly little to dislike really.

While AMD's new Phenom II chips support DDR2 and are compatible with existing AM2+ boards, their full potential is only realized when equipped with a few sticks of fast DDR3. Unfortunately, so far, the pool of available AM3 / DDR3 capable boards has been rather small with only a few choices. Today, we'll be examining the second DDR3 full CrossFireX capable AM3 board to hit our labs, the MSI 790FX-GD70, and we'll be putting it up against the ASUS M4A79T, head-to-head to see how it stacks up.
