Wingman Formula Force Wheel

Performance

I admit I really anticipated testing this unit. I figured early on that a USB device would have better response than a game port device, and quick response really is critical in a racing game. This wheel proved I was right.

There are some small drawbacks to the current system. For example, unlike some USB devices, the wheel does not calibrate itself when your system is powered on, and you have to manually calibrate by moving the wheel all the way in either direction and depressing the pedals. Big deal.

The pedals could use more resistance. This kind of tactile feedback helps the driver know how much power he is demanding from his car. Some users with large hooves may also find the pedals a bit small.

But in use, baby, does this device shine! I've had my hands on the MS wheel as well as the Act Labs wheel and the Saitek wheel, and this one is definitely superior to all. Logitech showed they could do it right with their Wingman Force, and this wheel is a perfect follow up.

Wheel

In use the wheel is precise, smooth, and powerful. It's not as powerful as the best wheel out there, but it's smoother and more precise. You can distinguish multiple forces on the wheel, and road feel is excellent. Responsiveness is equal to the Microsoft wheel, which has a built in brain (micro chip) to speed response.

Profiler

The software is excellent, as good as anything on the market and better than most. It's easy to learn, quick to program (even macros) and does what you expect it to do.

The Formula Force Wheel has a one year warranty and MSRP is $149 US. I recommend this unit without reservation!
