Thomas Rudder Pedals
by Kurt Giesselman

The UPS GUY delivered a large heavy box a few weeks ago. Inside I found an all black set of rudder pedals from Thomas Enterprises. They were austere, almost military in appearance. After I briefly examined the exterior, I decided to follow my reviewer's instincts and take the cover off.

I was thrilled to find that this required real tools! A 9/16" box-end wrench and socket wrench are required to open this baby up (insert your best Tim Allen imitation here, errrr...errrr). What I saw inside confirmed my hunch about why these pedals are so heavy: metal. Except for the plastic cover and the solid particle board base, there is nothing but metal in the construction of these pedals.

Thomas Enterprises has been producing high performance racing wheels and pedals for the driving simulation community for many years. Many driving simulation enthusiasts consider Thomas' wheels and pedals at the top end of available equipment. I was quite pleased and a little surprised to hear that they were going to enter the flight simulation market.

I was looking forward to the opportunity to try a new set of pedals. My original Thrustmaster RCS system had died along time ago. I have not been able to find a set of pedals that were rigorous enough to stand up to the way I fly a helicopter (a friend of mine that flies helicopters commented on my pedal abuse after watching me fly a mission in EECH.) Would the Thomas Enterprises rudder pedals be tough enough?

No nonsense, rugged looking pedals.
