Thomas Rudder Pedals
by Kurt Giesselman

The following list of features is plagiarized directly from the Thomas Enterprises web site:

  • Durable, heavy-duty construction
  • Lifetime warranty on all components except the potentiometer (90 days)
  • Compatible with all DB15 Flight sticks (not USB compatible)
  • Large, non-slip pedals with minimal angle adjustability
  • Fast, solder-free potentiometer changes
  • Uses the same potentiometers as our racing controllers (non-plug type)
  • Adjustable spring tension
  • Available joystick mounting pedestal (see below)
  • $20 shipping and handling charge inside continental US (contact us for international shipping charges)

My first discovery was that my old Thrustmaster FLCS no longer worked so it was off to the computer store for a DB15 compatible stick (everything else I have now is USB). After getting everything connected, it was simple to set up the new stick and pedals in Windows. No surprises, the pedals calibrated easy and gave the full range of output.

The pedals had no spiking as measured using Wbstick. Nevertheless, I would suggest using CTFJ v3.2 from The Stickworks(http://www.stickworks.com) with any analog controller. I fired up EECH immediately to get the feel of the pedals. The action is very smooth, as one would expect from an all metal gimbal mechanism.

The pedals are self centering with a very light feel. I prefer a stiffer feel. No problem! The spring tension is adjustable. I did crank the springs up to about two-thirds of maximum to get the feel I wanted.

Dave Thomas Jr., head of Thomas Enterprises, said they can ship heavier springs but that you will need to request them. The range of adjustment is quite large. I recommend staying with the standard springs unless your second hobby is professional wrestling.
