My Review of Horizons VFR USA Dallas Fort Worth’s Scenery for MS FS9

The installation comes by a single DVD-ROM which is different from the usual CD-ROM uploads that I am accustomed too. Does this make a difference? From my observation, I think not. I also found interesting that the package stated that you are required 400 MB of hard disk space but, when referring to the manual it states you need 1,33 GB of free hard drive space. The manual was a great help to understanding installation of the program, something you don’t see very much anymore.

While installing the program I had to check a few times to make sure my computer wasn’t hanging up, which it wasn’t it was just that the installation process appeared to have lag time while being installed, (the bar would not move at all towards 100% complete, then it would rapidly catch back up). The scenery upgraded is right in the DFW area running just north of Arlington. In a single engine prop you would be able to appreciate the upgrade much better than you would with a jet which would over-fly it in a matter of minutes.

The manual states that it is best to run this scenery with the visibility set from 10 to 20 miles, which I never really set when flying; however this did make a difference in the appearance of the visuals. While some areas appeared very clear and descriptive there were areas of fuzziness blurring out detail. Another interesting item to me was that the manual stated that the scenery can be used in any season but no night lighting is provided. While changing through the seasons I could not see any difference in the affected scenery however I did have night lighting.

While I would say that the scenery is nice and a step up from the original supplied with FS9, I believe that the name calls it correctly as VFR USA Dallas Fort Worth because that is the only way you could appreciate its real affect. Just make sure it’s a slow single engine………

Thanks John. This product like all other Flight-1 products are top notch. Look for this and pick it up!
