Metro: Last Light Released in North America - Launch Trailer

Source: GameZone

Today is the day. After a delay from its original mid-2012 release, Metro: Last Light is finally available. As one of my "notable" game releases for May, Metro: Last Light certainly lived up to expectations, scoring an impressive 8.5/10 here on GameZone.

“We are happy to release Metro: Last Light and very confident with the quality of the game” said Deep Silver International Commercial Director, Menno van der Bil. The story of Deep Silver's acquisition of Metro is quite compelling, as the publisher saved the title from the bankrupt THQ. “I am sure that Metro: Last Light will meet the fans expectations, and Deep Silver is very proud to embrace such an outstanding title in its lineup.”

A Light at the end of the tunnel.

By Colin Moriarty, IGN

Getting everything out of Metro: Last Light requires slow and patient play. In a post-apocalyptic adventure that relies a great deal on constant bits of exposition, the experience quickly grows into something much more than just your everyday shooter. The more time you spend exploring, listening, reading, and watching, the more you appreciate what 4A Games has created: an interesting story-driven single-player-only FPS. It undoubtedly rewards methodical players.

Update 1.05 also includes a small selection of fixes.

Soldier Front 2 Set to Deliver Cutting-Edge Competition

Posted by Donster on: 2013-05-07 15:01:42 in category: First-Person Shooter News [ Print ]

It takes expert skill, strong teamwork, and lots of headshots to make it to the top! Aeria Games, a leading global publisher of free-to-play online games, promises all that and more from Soldier Front 2. The company’s new first-person shooter (FPS), currently in development, offers a highly competitive scene that fans of the genre will be sure to love.

Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch are at the forefront of the plentiful modes in the game, providing an environment in which skill and experience reign supreme. To add variance to the gameplay, several other team modes with additional objectives are also in the mix. Seizure, Sabotage, and Escape modes pit an offensive team going after key targets against the defensive team tasked with eliminating them first.

Soldier Front 2 also features maps tailored specifically to the different modes. While a handful of maps are shared between some modes, every mode comes with a selection of maps that can only be chosen for that mode alone. This allows for map layouts, spawn points, and attack routes that maximize the strategic possibilities for every individual mode.

Soldier Front 2 will be free to download, and like all Aeria Games titles, will be free-to-play. Players can sign up for recruitment to closed beta now at soldierfront2.aeriagames.com.

Review: Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

Posted by Donster on: 2013-05-02 15:13:28 in category: First-Person Shooter News [ Print ]

By Mitch Dyer, IGN

Through my scope, I watch a neon-lit dinosaur shoot laser beams from its face in a fierce battle with evil robots. When it’s done roasting our mutual enemies, I blow the beast up with sniper-rockets. Suddenly, there's a 16-bit style sex montage. Nobody in their right mind would create something as wonderfully absurd as Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon – so I’m glad someone in charge at Ubisoft is at least a little nuts.

Preview: Hands-on with Call of Juarez: Gunslinger

Posted by Donster on: 2013-04-25 15:40:40 in category: First-Person Shooter News [ Print ]

The game that is 5% Clint Eastwood, 95% Rambo

Cowboy first-person shooter Call of Juarez has donned numerous guises since its 2006 inception. The original lurched to life on PC, and lumbered through low-res Wild West towns with clunky shotguns, before 2009's Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood saw developers Techland launch into a faster brand of buddy action.

After horrendous neo-western misstep Call of Juarez: The Cartel in 2011 we're back in the dusty old mid-1800's for what's Techland's fourth, and likely final, attack this generation. And they're going for the jugular.

For starters, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is downloadable only, releasing on XBLA, PSN and Steam this summer, which Techland license to play quick and dirty.

Short, direct, and packing an almost comic sense of violence, it's Call of Duty in a stetson and spurs.

Bohemia Interactive has just released a new episode in the Arma 3 video guide series. Drawing on endless hours of multiplayer combat experience, Andrew Gluck (better known as Dslyexci from ShackTactical) narrates the video to share tips on how to be effective as a team in multiplayer.

The Arma 3 Alpha, which was released over a month ago, forms the backdrop to these videos.

Featured in the Arma 3 Alpha are four showcase missions (Infantry, Vehicles, SCUBA and Helicopter), a limited subset of weapons and vehicles, two multiplayer scenarios, the powerful scenario editor and modding support. Whereas the final game will also feature the 270 km² Mediterrean island of Altis, the Alpha is positioned on Stratis – which hosts 20 km² of rugged terrain, expansive forests and a man-made airbase.

CVG flies to DICE to view the FPS sequel with extra heart

By Nick Cowen for CVG UK

John Riccitiello may be firmly in the rearview mirror of the EA monolith but his stated philosophy concerning its flagship shooter is still in place, it seems.

From the evidence on display at Battlefield 4's first reveal of its FPS in the Skandia Teatern in Stockholm last night, EA seems to be after two things. First, it wants to lay an unshakable claim to having one of this year's biggest releases. Second, and admittedly, this is extrapolating, to an extent; it wants to eclipse its competition.

You will believe a city can fly.

By Ryan McCaffrey @ IGN

BioShock Infinite aims so damn high – fittingly, since its alternate-reality 1912 city of Columbia literally floats atop clouds – that it’s a wonder it successfully hits any of its lofty goals at all. But it does hit them, again and again. A stunning original world of retro-sci-fi technology and gorgeous scenery. A cast of fully fleshed-out, memorable characters who deliver real emotional impact. A great villain and a greater monster. New and thrilling ways of traveling and changing the world around you. A story twist most people won't see coming. Even when it does occasionally miss, another hit follows so quickly that the stumble almost feels like a setup to increase the effect. Infinite comes through as a true, worthy follow-up to BioShock, one of the most-renowned shooters of this generation. In my book, it becomes one itself.

Review: Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2

Posted by Donster on: 2013-03-22 16:35:54 in category: First-Person Shooter News [ Print ]

Satisfying stealth and shooting make Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 a notable improvement over its predecessor.

By Brett Todd @ GameSpot

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is a superior shooter when compared to its predecessor. Granted, that isn't saying much. Said predecessor suffered from terrible artificial intelligence, absurd bullet physics, and an overall level of difficulty on par with solving a Rubik's Cube while navigating white-water rapids blindfolded. This time around, however, developer City Interactive has addressed virtually all of the sore points that made the earlier game miss as often as it hit. This is an accomplished stealthy shooter, with smarter enemy AI, more-realistic sniper physics, and scaled-down difficulty that provide a challenging, not maddening, sniping experience. Only miscues like the spread-out save checkpoints and throwaway multiplayer keep it from achieving greatness.

Single player DLC, Siberian Strike, will launch for Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 next week

City Interactive has announced that Siberian Strike, a new DLC (downloadable content) for Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, will arrive on March 27th, 2013. The DLC is set in an isolated Siberian location and will offer a more open world experience for solving missions. Players will not be guided and the only way to find their way through the new location is by using the map.

In the remote abandoned Siberian city of Birsovik, the Russian government established a top secret military installation focused on arms R&D. American intelligence gets word that the facility shifted its focus recently to weapons of mass destruction. A CIA operative, M. Diaz is sent in undercover, posing as lab personnel, to uncover the truth. When he stops sending in reports, a search mission is quickly put together.

The player steps in the shoes of Cole “Sandman” Anderson, a veteran special ops sniper, now in the ranks of Task 121 - a group put together to counter any WMD-hungry warlord's whim in the Asia – Pacific region. Anderson is ordered to locate Diaz’s GPS signal and assess the situation on the ground, then extract any intelligence he may have found.
