Posted by Donster on: 2009-11-20 18:41:31 in category: Strategy and Wargaming News [ Print ]

Redefining the World War II strategy experience.

By Jeff Haynes, IGN

Two years ago, Muzzy Lane and Strategy First released a classroom tool designed to educate students about the motivations of various countries during World War II. The tool eventually evolved into a commercial game known as "Making History", and the turn-based strategy title provided a decent set of "What if" scenarios for history fans to explore. Seeking to improve on the formula, Muzzy Lane has been hard at work on a sequel, Making History II: The War of the World. I recently had a chance to check out the latest build of the upcoming strategy game, which has been redesigned to accommodate a variety of offline and online play sessions.

We get our first look at the next Total War game, which will put the glorious career of Napoleon under a microscope.

By Andrew Park, GameSpot

For years, the "Total War" series has offered enormous, epic strategy on a scale that has only become greater over time. That's about to change. The next game in the series, Napoleon: Total War will, in the words of developer Creative Assembly, "put Total War under the microscope" because it will focus on the somewhat shorter, but legendary, career of one Napoleon Bonaparte instead of offering lengthy campaigns that last through decades of time. We recently had a chance to take a first look at the game and see some of its new features in action.

King Arthur Shows Off Its Strongholds - Screens

Posted by Donster on: 2009-11-06 17:55:53 in category: Strategy and Wargaming News [ Print ]

The majestic Strongholds of King Arthur – The Role-playing Wargame are the magic castles of the legends, now reborn in Britannia; the cities of wonders that wizards used to summon out of thin air during one night.

There are only a handful of locations where it is possible to build a Stronghold. They used to be the palaces of gods and kings in the ancient times, but they had been destroyed. But now, as the tides of wonder sweep over Britannia again, the time is right to restore these colossal keeps… because in a Stronghold everything is possible.

In King Arthur, Strongholds are the centers for development and research – and also huge, beautiful battlegrounds. These mythical medieval cities offer almost unrestricted construction possibilities and a diversified tech tree. The first of the Strongholds will be the legendary Camelot.

PC Game Preview: Armada 2526

Posted by Donster on: 2009-11-05 18:22:50 in category: Strategy and Wargaming News [ Print ]

By Jim Zabek @ The Wargamer

If Jeopardy’s Alex Trebek were to turn his interest to wargames, things might go something like this:

Contestant A: Alex, I’ll take Wargames for $500

Alex: Armada 2526

Contestant A: What do you get when the developer of the Total War series meets Sci-fi?

Alex: Right you are!

I seriously doubt Alex Trebek is a wargamer so I don’t expect to see that question any time soon. However, Armada 2526 looks like it will become the spiritual successor to the "Total War" series in Sci-fi form. Make no mistake, Bob Smith is a true wargamer at heart. Checking out his bio, he has some solid credentials as both a wargamer and mainstream developer. That experience gets translated favorably into his latest creation, Armada 2526.
