Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent is the next installment in a series marked by stealth and intrigue, so it's no surprise that Ubisoft quietly sneaked word of a delay to the game under cover of their most recent financial statements. The game was formerly expected in September, but is now slated for late October:
"The third quarter will see a strong activity, notably with the launch of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent (whose launch date is now scheduled for the end of October 2006)."
