American Civil War Gettysburg Review

Who in the world would want to do another Gettysburg computer game? The battle has been done on all scales, in every genre, for every operating system by every designer who has stuck their heads out of the World War II period. What’s the point? Is this some sort of game designer rite of passage? A visit to the Catdaddy website – Talonsoft, the publisher, has nothing at their site – may provide a clue. This developer is definitely eclectic but a number of their games seem to be aimed at the 10 – 15 year age bracket and have some educational intent. Being a big supporter of the educational potential of games, my jaded sneer turned into an interested raised eyebrow. Should American Civil War Gettysburg be judged by a standard other than a serious wargamer’s? If so, does it accomplish its purpose?
