Treyarch shooter shatters day one entertainment sales records

Call of Duty: Black Ops has broken day one entertainment sales records, according to publisher Activision.

The Treyarch shooter "has become the biggest entertainment launch ever", with an estimated sell-through of $360 million in the US and UK alone in the first 24 hours of availability.

That beats the day one record of $310 million set by last year's series entry Modern Warfare 2. Looks like everyone's favourite exec, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, was right then.

In its first day on sale, Black Ops moved approximately 5.6 million copies in the US and UK, compared to Modern Warfare 2's 4.7 million, according to internal Activision estimates.

"There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year's five-day global sales record of $550 million," said Kotick.
