Posted by Donster on: 2014-04-22 18:37:26 in category: RPG News [ Print ]

1C Company is excited to announce the upcoming release of King's Bounty: Dark Side, the next chapter in the award-winning King's Bounty saga.

Time has come to join the Dark Journey to the other side of Teana and visit a mysterious part of the world never before seen by royal bounty hunters.

For the first time in King's Bounty series, players will be able to choose their hero’s race as well as class. Become a fearless Orcs warrior, lead and heal your troops as a Demoness, or use dark magic as a fearsome Vampire.

The world is in turmoil. After winning the battle of Tristrem, arrogant elves plunder Orcish villages, desecrate holy shrines, and massacre the innocents. Orc-Baghyr, the greatest living Orc warrior, is forced to flee with a handful of loyal followers. He vows to return with a stronger force and retake his homeland!

Armies of human knights invade the land of Atrixus. A young Demoness named Neoleene, still mourning the death of her royal father, and her small unit of devoted imps is all that stands in the way of the invading horde.

Castle of the ancient Morton clan is threatened by an army of vampire hunters. Young Daert leaves home to seek allies among the other Dark races. All must join him or perish.

Fates of the three heroes are sealed. They come together in the depths of the Black Cave, where many centuries ago races of Light imprisoned Ancient Evil. The heroes exchange vows and share antique artifacts, then gather their armies and march to fight for the very survival of their race. They must unite against the Light or face extinction!

World of Warcraft Add-on Trojan Steals Account, Authenticator Info

Posted by Donster on: 2014-01-04 14:23:39 in category: RPG News [ Print ]

By Connor Sheridan @ CVG

A Trojan masquerading as a popular add-on for World of Warcraft was responsible for compromising user accounts even with authenticators, Blizzard has revealed.

According to a post on the MMORPG's support forum, a fake version of the Curse Client contained the trojan. The spoofed client appeared on a forged version of Curse's website, which ranked highly on major search engines for the term "curse client."

The hacked Curse Client transmitted account information, passwords, and even authenticator keys to the attackers as part of the login process, but otherwise functioned normally.

Blizzard recommends that users who believe they may have been compromised delete the client and run the latest version of Malwarebytes, then follow the steps listed on its support page.

"For those of you interested in these [man-in-the-middle] style attacks, this is the only confirmed case we've seen in several years outside of the 'Configuring/HIMYM' trojan in early 2012 that hit a handful of accounts," a Blizzard support agent wrote. "These sort of outbreaks are annoying, but an Authenticator still protects your account 99% of the time. Stay safe!"

Sony Online Entertainment Reveals EverQuest Next

Posted by Donster on: 2013-08-06 16:17:16 in category: RPG News [ Print ]

Source: Gamer's Hell

Along with these screenshots, Sony Online Entertainment announced EverQuest Next, a complete reimagining of the EverQuest franchise. Every piece of the world is fully destructible and players will have the ability to manipulate almost all of it. They will interact with and explore the world in amazing ways; venturing down into the deep bedrock beneath the surface and using powerful combat abilities to blow gaping holes into the ground.

In EQN, NPCs will have specific motivations and preferences that direct behavior in nuanced and unpredictable ways. Players will find themselves in a world where NPC decisions are based on core values, not dictated by static spawn points. For example, Orcs may attack opportunistically because they want an adventurer's gold, not simply because a careless hero wanders into an attack radius.

In related news, SOE will introduce EverQuest Next Landmark which will combine the building tools SOE is using to create the fully destructible world of EQN with all of the social functionality expected from a modern MMO. The game will feature huge persistent worlds that each support thousands of other players and varied terrain inspired by the environments of EQN. Most importantly, Landmark will provide anyone who wants to participate with the opportunity to actually build structures, and eventually create other types of content, to be considered for inclusion in EQN.

Nuclear Union Announced

1C Company announces development of Nuclear Union, a "large-scale" post-apocalyptic role-playing game in the works at Men of War developer Best Way.

Every child knows the glorious story that lead to today. When the Capitalist Alliance lead by the Americans refused to allow our defensive screen in Cuba, in 1962, and then attacked us with nuclear weapons. However our Motherland and the Soviet Forces were better prepared than the dogs knew. We leveled them, and half the planet, to show our sickle is sharp and the hammer hits hard indeed!

While the Americans celebrated that they reduced Moscow to rubble, our air defenses kept the city from becoming ash. Almost the entire planet surface was contaminated by their bombs, but it didn’t matter as we had moved underground days before. The Soviet Union did what we have always done, survived. The country underwent a massive evacuation of the most important citizens, leaders and industries to a pre-built network of specifically equipped bunkers.

It’s 50 years later, 2012, and our glorious capital city, Pobedograd (Victory City), is a beacon of hope. It’s time to go outside again brothers and sisters, time to see what has become of our Motherland and her proud cities and towns. Grab a weapon and join us!

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review

Posted by Donster on: 2012-02-08 17:06:28 in category: RPG News [ Print ]

Gameplay-lacking RPGs have met their match.

By Colin Moriarty, IGN

Who said that epic and expansive fantasy RPGs had to have subpar gameplay? For as much as I absolutely adore games like Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2 and Skyrim, gameplay in those titles simply didn't live up to the amazing standards set by their superb settings, narratives and quest structures. In Fallout 3, VATS was simply an excuse for its inherently clumsy combat, and for as much awe as Skyrim instilled in me, in-game fighting is sloppy. Good news, then, that Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has come along.

An update to the Bethesda Blog from Nick, one of the blog's maintainers, explains they are working on addressing these issues: "Frank — we are aware of the issue and are working on a fix for the next patch. That said, if you already have a save game where the bug is occurring, the fix will not apply and you’ll need to revert to an earlier save prior to ED-E leaving in order to play through Honest Hearts."
