    CDR Robert Niewoehner, USN, served as the Navy’s lead test pilot on the Super Hornet program from prior to first flight until July of this year. During that time he flew 296 E/F missions and more than 450 flight hours.

Fighter Squadron SDOE Contest

    Plans are being formulated for a joint US/UK programme to develop a torpedo tube-launched version of the new Tactical Tomahawk (TacTom) land attack cruise missile.

  • UK starts selection of new support rotorcraft

    UK Defence Procurement Agency officials have begun work on selecting a new rotorcraft to replace more than 100 Royal Navy and Royal Air Force support helicopters.

    The US/UK Future Scout Cavalry System/Tactical Reconnaissance Armoured Combat Equipment Requirement (FSCS/TRACER) programme is still on course, sources have indicated.

    Germany's Parliamentary Defence Committee has approved the purchase of 56 Krauss-Maffei Wegmann All-Protected Carrier Vehicles for the German Army's crisis reaction forces.

    The New Zealand Army has embarked on a five-year project, Army 2005, to enhance the service's operational capabilities and ensure interoperability with New Zealand's allies.

    The Australian Department of Defence has launched its programme for an improved air-to-air refuelling (AAR) capability for the Royal Australian Air Force.

  • Israel plans upgrade for Arrow-2 missile system

    As preparations are being made for the partial deployment of the first battery of Arrow-2 anti-tactical ballistic missiles (ATBMs), Israel is already planning an upgrade of the anti-missile system in order to intercept advanced Iranian missiles.

  • UN deadlocked on Iraqi arms inspections

    A new UN arms inspection team to monitor Iraq's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and stop further development of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons was approved last month by the UN Security Council after more than a week of closed-door discussions.

    Croatia's national elections this month could upset a $110 million deal for an Israeli consortium to upgrade Zagreb's MiG-21 fighter aircraft and T-55 main battle tanks (MBTs).
