Team Alligator: Campaign Mission Briefing
by Leonard "Viking1" Hjalmarson January 14th, 2000

I had two damaged birds as a result of my first mission. A single bird on my team of four had very slight damage, but the team-mate of the lost team was barely flyable. I assigned a crewchief to work on the damaged bird.

I then checked the news updates to see if a new report had come in while I was flying the mission. Incidentally, once you complete the mission goals (primary and secondary targets) you will have the choice of exitting the mission immediately or physically flying back to base.

One of the disappointments I have with the sim at this point relates to situational awareness. While you can zoom the cockpit in and out somewhat, you won't get a full cockpit instrument display such as you would have in Jane's Longbow. As a result, you must pan the cockpit down to check your threat warning system or radar.

SIMIS has allowed a cheat (CTL V), however, which brings up your radar on the HUD to a range limit of 2 km. Unfortunately, they have not allowed the same feature for a second MFD such as threat indicator.

In the late beta my Thrustmaster gear has proven very difficult to use. The dead zone seems too large and there was no facility to adjust dead zone in the sim. Perhaps this will be added or fixed for the final version.

Oddly, there is no way to turn the radar on or off, but it seems linked to weapons selection. I'm curious as to how this relates to detection in the game and whether detection is modeled for enemy systems for your radar and IR emissions.

Recently someone inquired about snap views. These are accessed modeled, as is a target padlock view.
