Falcon 4.0 - Broken Spearhead Campaign

  by Finn Jacobsen

  Mission description:

This mission should present common western air campaign tactics. As You can see in the attached ATO, most missions are SEAD strike, since North Korea has a comprehensive air defence system. All strike missions are arranged as packages containing the Strike flight itself, supported by both Escort and SEAD escort flights.

Many Strike missions are evaluated through pictures taken by BDA flights also contained in the Strike packages. Since you (USAF) are the aggressor, the DPRK air force will be flying defensive combat air patrols primarily, but be aware of retaliation strike packages.

Force ratio between the US Air Force and the DPRK Air force is approximately 2:1, which presents the force ratio between the combined forces of the ROK and USA versus DPRK, as seen in reality. Falcon 4.0 does not permit two teams set up as allies, therefore I have chosen the USAF to represent the Combined forces of ROK and USA. Be aware that the aircraft types represented in this mini campaign do not represent the real world.

Due to a "cowardice" bug in Falcon 4.0 ver. 1.07, strike flights tend to return home if any enemy flights or air-defence system is active near the target. I recommend that you take part in all essential strike packages in order to keep the strike flight within your player bubble where they seem to be more aggressive.

NOTE: I am not stating that this mini campaign is reflecting real world air strike tactics. It is only an example of how a strike campaign in broad lines are carried out. The above stated bugs is only my own experience and theory. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Background:

The North Koreans have finished the development of a new medium range ballistic missile called Taepo Dong II (TD 2).

The missile is believed to be capable of being fitted with either a conventional, chemical or even a nuclear warhead. Since North Korea is thought to be in possession of chemical warheads as well as close to finishing the development of a nuclear warhead, this missile system is seen as a great threat to its neighbouring countries, espacially South Korea.

North Korea has now started a large scale production of these missiles. Two North Korean factories are known to produce components for the missiles. In Pyongyang a SCUD C factory is building the missile itself, while the Námpo Electronics plant is producing its guidance system.

Because the USA has great interest in a stabilized East Asia, it cannot allow North Korea to deploy the missiles. The President has given orders to stike North Korean facilities involved in producing components for the missiles.

Since North Korea is well defended by SAM and triple A emplacements, these are to be put out of action first. Mig-21 and Mig-23 squadrons operating out of Haeju, Koksan and Hwangju Airbases, are a threat to all air operations in the area. These airbases will be targeted in order to gain air superiority. Mig-29s and Mig-25s ares operating from air bases north of Pyongyang.
