Bigger, Bolder and Colder

Corsair’s history in the all-in-one liquid cooling niche goes back more than a decade and spans dozens of models, more than a few of which have graced our list of best AIO coolers. But the new H170i Elite Capellix is the company’s largest ever AIO, featuring a massive 420 radiator (3x140mm). Of course, it also sports a Corsair pump controlled by the company’s iCue system management and monitoring suite, along with a standalone Commander Core lighting and fan controller, plus a trio of ML140 RGB fans. As you might imagine by its size along the H170i Elite Capellix comes equipped to cool just about any desktop processor on the market today.

Alphacool is one of the biggest and best-known names in system cooling and with good reason. Being well-reputed for their AIO cooling solutions and custom loop systems, they’re one of the most obvious choices if you’re planning to go down that road with your system. They are, without a doubt, one of the biggest market leaders!

With the launch of the brand new Eisbaer Aurora, however, this is certainly one of their most interesting designs I think I’ve ever encountered. That’s interesting in a good way, just in case you couldn’t tell.

During Computex 2019, Corsair unveiled its new Hydro X series – a new range of water cooling hardware that marks its first entry into custom water cooling market. The range offers CPU blocks for multiple sockets, multiple fittings, tubing types, and a pump/reservoir combo, allowing users can build a high-performance system with nearly all Corsair branded parts. When you think of PC cooling, many of you will immediately think of both Corsair and an AIO cooler. You would be right to do so, they’re one of the biggest brands out there, and their AIO coolers are regarded as many of the best. Plus, their prices are pretty competitive, we know the performance is great, and they look good. So, what is Corsair doing making an air cooler? Well, this isn’t the first time. They did it a few years back with some budget air coolers, and well, they were a bit crap. Corsair is a much more premium brand these days, and the new A500 looks set to match their portfolio.

Today, we are reviewing an AIO cooler from Arctic: the LIQUID FREEZER II 280. The series has been introduced on the 9th of December this year. Arctic is no “newbie” in the AIO segment of the market. It’s already been four years since they announced the Liquid Freezer I series. This time around, there’s no RGB either, and the system is still not expandable (similarly to most of the solutions on the market today), unlike the Alphacool Eisbaer 280 Extreme or Swiftech H240 X3 that we reviewed this year.

Today, we are reviewing an AIO cooler from Silverstone: the PERMAFROST PF240. Silverstone is not entirely a newcomer in the AIO segment of the market. In the past, they introduced the Tundra series (120/240 mm), which was available in an RGB version as well. This time around, it’s a fully ARGB LCS, although unfortunately not expandable (similarly to most of the solutions on the market today), unlike the Alphacool Eisbaer 280 Extreme or Swiftech H240 X3 that we reviewed here recently.

Keeping Threadripper cool on a budget

A large, dual-tower heatpipe cooler with an RGB accented shroud, Arctic’s newly released Freezer 50 TR is designed specifically to attack the substantial thermal loads produced by AMD’s Threadripper CPUs. For $75.99 (£60), the Freezer 50 TR even includes an aRGB control module to manage the integrated lighting accents along the top of the cooler shroud.
