MechCommander is a completely different game from MechWarrior. Based on a 'commanders' view, you take complete tactical control of an entire company of Mechs. As a MechCommander, you customize your 'Mechs, develop your MechWarriors' skills, and direct your plan of attack. MechCommander throws you into the role of commander of a unit of mercenary MechWarriors in a real-time strategy game set in the perpetual BattleTech® Universe.

In his interview with the FASA team, Raul had a chance to talk with Mitch Gitelman, Program Manager and Producer for Mechcommander 2.

CSIM: Will MC2 use the same interface as MC1 or will we see any major changes in that area?

Mitch: The interface of MC2 is the next generation of the MC1 interface, and is therefore similar in many ways. We've added a new palette of support options. These options allow you to be flexible during the course of a mission and react to the state of the battle.

If you find a good chokepoint, you can fly in a minelayer. If you're getting hammered, you can call in a repair truck. If you disable a particularly tasty enemy 'Mech, you can call one of your pilots to recover it and use it yourself.

We've also adopted the "left-click select/right click action" of mouse control used in many successful RTS titles. It lowers the frustration of accidentally giving move orders when you want to select someone. Of course, if you want to play "MC1-style", you can change this on the options screen.
