For those of you who have used Lennart Arvidsson's CFS2 terrain, have you found any effect on performance? Also, what is the deal with the Desert 3? Is this an extra download aside from Comtex 1 and 2? The readme left me a little baffled. I just want to know a bit more about it. I've read previous threads on this but they didn't really clear it up for me. Thanks in advance.

My opinion is that it's better than the stock terrain. It is more vibrant and has more depth and color variation. It's a bit darker, but does not look out of place for the tropics. I have had no framerate problems at all. as for the desert folder? Not sure about that one, i dont use them, But i think he had in mind maybe something for north africa?
Find my thread regards a new zero skin (repaint) the screenshot uses this terrain.

IMHO Lennart's textures are a little bit of a mixed bag. As replacement for FS2K, they're basically better than the stock textures. Lennart's textures have more detail, and better coloring--- but they look horrible from any sort of distance (real patterny), or over flat terrain. Over some of the mesh scenery in FS2K they rock!

In CFS?
Well, to be honest, I think the stock textures are great, esp. at 256. I wouldn't put Lennart's textures in over the pacific textures.

I think that they would be good in other parts of the world, but I don't know how hard that would be to do.

Thank you for the nice words........but what are CFS2-textures doing in FS2k?
Nothing is perfect..not even Microsofts textures.....but "horrible"......!?!?
I think that is to go to far!

Lennart--
"...but what are CFS2-textures doing in FS2k? "

Well I obviously didn't make myself clear , which isn't a rare situation.

I was talking about your textures as replacements for FS2K, which I think are better than the stock ones M$ shipped for that game.

I think that the stock M$ CFS textures are great, at least in the Pacific, and no offense, but I wouldn't be replacing them with what you've posted recently. Your texture work IMHO might be be better everywhere else in the CFS world.

What's there now isn't even as good as what M$ shipped with FS2K.

Now as to the other statement, (the "horrible" one) first let me praise your work (bows down, kneeling on the floor, Praise! Praise!). My biggest issue with your texture set is when they're viewed on 1. flat terrain, or 2. over lower res mesh (like stock FS2K, or CFS2 outside of the Pacific theatre) I see pattern repetitions like crazy, the same thing over and over again.
And that to me is "horrible." Oddly enough, I think that's what M$ did best-- less patterns-- what I wish is they had your colors, detail, etc.

For lower level flight, your textures are supreme, and I LOVE flying in the Alaska bush with mesh scenery in FS using your stuff.

This certainly wasn't meant as a slam against you, as it's those bits that are interesting in your textures that cause the patterns in the first place.

Now maybe if you did a new set strictly for CFS2... (wink, wink, hint, hint)
