Overall, I'm still not objective due to the shock of being able to fly a Corsair and shoot down Zekes in a modern simulation.

But I can see the good and bad.

The bad is:
-that same "whispy" look that CFS had;
-that crappy external view system CFS had;

The good is:

Almost everything else!

I was thinking it looked too much like CFS when I first took off from an airstrip. But then I tried my first combat mission and WOW! The tracers (enemy), bullet strikes, damage modeling (yours and enemy) are all improved 100 percent.

The sky and weather effects are also much better than CFS.

Add to that the campaign system which CFS didn't have, and I'm pretty happy.

No, the graphics aren't anything that would make WWII Fighters look bad but they are much more interesting than the original.

If you're a Pacific Theater fan it's a no brainer; you gotta have it.

Boy it felt good to shoot the wings off a Zero for the first time!

IMHO.

Good hunting.

Pasha,

On second thought, after spending some time in the extrnal views, the player aircraft are much more realistically painted and weathered than those in WWII Fighters.

I think it's just the "cartoonish" interior views, like those of Flight Simulator 98 and 2000, that turn me off. The cockpits in WWII Fighters are so clear and sharp, some of them look like photographs of the real thing.

But I guess it's not much of an issue; I often switch to the HUD view in combat anyhow.

Good hunting.

My first impressions of CFS 2 are that it's good but not as good as EAW. It's a shame that Mucroprose didn't take their WW 2 sim to the Pacific.
CFS 2 while it has it's good features, such as plane damage, I would have like to have seen, better flight deck operations with more than one plane on the deck. Also for I miss seeing the prop, makes it much more real to me. When all is said, I still think it's a good flight sim and will play it often.

IMHO, Hasbro is going to sell Microprose in the near future. There's a chance Microsoft going to buy MPS because of its many award-winning strategy and simulation titles (I don't know if Hasbro is still going to retain these titles but I don't think there's any use to them as they want to refocus toward their main business on conventional toys). The MPS guys can also rejoin their former brethren who are in limbo now, the Jane's Baltimore Boys (some of their top men are from classic MPS). Everything is still possible, I suppose.

Much good luck to Brandon Gamblin. His almost-singular effort makes EAW as immortal as it is now.

Hey, you can shoot zekes in EAW with a corsair. There's a brand new 3dz corsair from Woolfman using the proper propellor and canopy. It's great. Just drop Jamie's Blue Navy corsair skin on it. It's now my favorite. The new 1.2a EAW is damn fine.
