I watched a small Vivo clip of some action at some site...i noticed that the sound effects were exactly the same as CFS 1. The guns, the engines, everything...anyone know if that was just beta? They MUST be putting better sounds in i hope! I have also noticed in some screenshots that there is a pilot in some planes...and not in others...is that just beta too? Anyone?

Guys:

Don't worry about the sounds - they are much improved. Did you check out the new shots at www.simhq.com ? Especially the Zeke escorting a Kate. And that Zero taking off from what I think is the Shokaku.

It just get's better and better.

To Hell w/ the Naysayers who don't know the meaning of the word BETA.

Come 10/12/00 we will all get to land on a pitching deck.

Wolverine:

I wouldn't worry about the sounds in CFS2, just as Barkhorn has stated. I read a preview on some site (can't remember which) that said the sounds were a great improvement over CFS1. In fact, I think the guy made a reference to the sounds being similar to Meatwater's new sounds in EAW. Definitely high quality stuff.

I have been playing the final and the sounds are great. The beta really scared me as the sounds were the old CFS1 sounds. The final has a lot better sounds that the original IMHO.

Hey Guys,
Don`t forget that the people who will
"make" this game are the guys in the CFSII
community. That was the case with EAW,SDOE and
WWII Fighters not to mention CFSI and Red Baron. All those sims were dogs "out-of-the box" but have since become classics (well, some of them).
Not to worry,whatever
CFSII lacks the guys who work hard at im-
proving sims will do it again !
Cheers,Dickby

Disagreeing with Dickby's "dogs-out-of-the-box" comment, I do agree with everything else. The mod-makers, bit-mappers, sound-creators, and mission/campaign designers of the flight sim crowd are a relatively small but extremely talented bunch who keep making old sims new again. CFS2 will be no different and, dare I say, better in that the sim seems to factor in the mod community by making it easier to get to the guts of the sim and change or modify things.

I salute all of you soon-to-be modders of CFS2. I appreciate you all.

Sounds? I guess I'm crazy but to me, they're great. The engines, be they radial or inline, are quite unique. The enertia starters, labouring under load , labouring with too rich or lean a mixture or too course a prop pitch. Even the early timing @ idle gives a lope to the engines. The gear retracting, the flaps, wether they be chain or hydraulic/electric, the rumble of wheels or belly on terra firma. The rate of fire for cannons or mgs is quit nice. One doesn't hear the blocks cycling as in EAW but which one is right. I like em both. The gear & flap indicators are real nice touches. The auto pitch & mixture controls according to throttle settings for the 190s. This is a first.
Anyway, enough from me.
FWIW,
Good Hunting!

I just found the .303 machine gun sound in CFS 1 to be EXTREMELY weak...and when planes flew past it sounded like one of those rubber band gliders =)...that and the AI were my only complaints with that game...oh..and the flight models =)

Yes, the model engine sounds of planes flying past. There's a DL that brings those sounds up to par but be damned if I can find it again. They were a bit irritating without it.
Try flying WBs offline. It's free for the DL but it has an FM close to CFS. It just takes getting use to & one has to be on one's toes for E management & SA.
I still like EAW very very much & play it the most of all, by far. In fact, I think I like the FM of EAW better than CFS. It's a little easier but it "feels" more correct to me. One can go "fangs out hair on fire" in most sims but not CFS or WBs, IMHO!
FWIW,
Good Hunting!
