I played alot of Longbow 2 single player, but never got into the multiplayer, as I d heard there was tons of bugs involved.
What was it like to fly in the multiplayer games? Was it realistic? Was the gameplay laggy, smooth and fast?? I d love to hear what a multiplayer scenario is like as far as a heli sim goes. <S>
Gunship will have a way going on all around us in the single player game, will this be true of the multplayer game too?

What's multiplayer helo simulating like?

Great with people who know the meaning of teamwork. Sheer waste of time wih those who don't. Longbow 2 is about the best there is for co-op flight. The different choppers in the sim allows players to adopt differing roles: such as escort and troop insertion/extraction between the Apache and Blackhawk.

I highly recommend the mission "Voodoo Hunter" for this kind of mission. And play it with regens OFF for that complete sweaty palms experience :-)

And using a voice comms package is not essential but GREATLY enhances the experience and team co-ordination.

There's more to multiplayer than a couple of guys flying around in death choppers blowing sh¦t up in Longbow 2. Mutual support and differeing mission roles together with relativley good internet performance has made it a classic no serious sim-head interested in grunt work should miss.

Although if you're interested in what it's like to fly a hard-core simulation of a chopper flight then Apache-Havoc with "cross-coupling" turned off is a rude awakening.

Not as "fun" as LB2 but a way better FM.

With regard to GUNSHIP, there's nothing wrong in making conessions to gameplay, LB2 does exactly the same. No one has yet created a chopper sim that doesn't drop difficulty for playability reasons - most chopper sims are pitched at people who are used to flying fixed wing games so they have to be made simple :-)

Regards

flexman's usual eloquence hit it on the head with the coop/coordination/voice in lb2

... those were the days, sigh

Hmm, i think you heard wrong maybe... Anyway you've missed a few years of fun IMO.

Lb2 version 2.09 (or LBA for that matter) has been helpfull on speeding up data transmission for us!

I wish you some good online coop flights...

Enforcer.

thx for the replies all. <S> You know... the reason I stopped playing LB 2 was because of trying microsofts force feedback heli rotor effect while demoing that stick... the f.f. Pro, and then buying it.
I loved LB 2, but felt after that something was missing. I m glad more sims are adopting force feedback stick effects now.
As for Battlecom, I did a beta testing stint with shadowfactor. Not long, but long enough to know that voice com has changed the way we communicate ingame. RW is one I use just in case, but prefer Battlecom. I m Battlecom reg user 156 hehhehheh.

And as for FMs of the games that are coming soon.. I just wanna "feel" like I m engaged in piloting, immersed... that it can t be so easy to do...because I ve flown that easy type of game before, and it doesn t feel right, and it s no fun.
Know what I mean? Again.. thx for your replies. <S>

Battlecom reg user 123 hehhehheh.

in 4-5 man lb2 flights, we had to resort to using bfc channels, one per farp plus a "common channel" for force commo; one or two human pilots in each farp depending upon mission, to reduce the voice confusion ---- not real combat of course, but you could almost imagine it was.....

covering the blackhawk, coming to another pilots rescue against enemy air attacks, hunter killer tactics, bob up, pass targets to another human pilot for engaging and maintaining cover watch during his attack....

ahhh, the good old days, sigh
:-}

aye that s the beauty of Battlecom. I also use the dedicated server software. Setting up hotkeys is so easy, a good idea that. I will never ever resort to just type messaging again...
Soon, on the 18th, Microsoft is releasing an updated 1.3 version of Battlecom for free to the public from shadowfactor.com. Also, the server software won t be beta anymore, it ll be the 1.0 server software.
When dx 8 arrives within the new 6 months, I ll be very interested in seeing how Battlecoms next incarnation "Direct Voice" will be included into DX 8.
