Is there anyway to fly a campaign using ECA without have bombs assigned for every mission? I know about taking them off if I am in command, but I like to start at the lowest rank and move up from there?

If anyone knows of a solution, please tell me.

Kiitos

It depends on the aircraft and time period you are flying. The bombers (B26, Ju87, Ju88A, and Helll) will always have bombs loaded (otherwise they turn back before completing their mission). As for fighters, if you fly a Typhoon in 1944, for example, you will (almost) always be assigned ground attack mission, and so you get a bomb load.

Every campaign mission I've flown since going to ECA 2.0 has given me bombs. I don't mind if we're going to hit ground targets. But air to air in a Spitfire Mk IX shouldn't include bombs. We have enough trouble with the new "Super 190" without being forceed to lug bombs through the turns.

If there is a way to avoid the bombs on fighter sweeps please let me know.

Thanks

Sisu

Ive noticed this also in p-38 fighter sweep missions, i used to just drop them in the channel, but ive left them on while dog fighting...i don think that it actually causes any loss of performance, but I could be wrong. Im not always the sharpest knife in the drawer!

Und people have told me I am one sandwich short of a pinic!

But- Ich glaube that there are no ordanace penalties in the FM?- I've never noticed it- in "Aces over Europe" this was modeled.

In zhat game your aircraft handled badly with ordanance on board, but virtually "jumped" when you dropped it to a "clean" configuration.

I might be wrong, but meiner Wingmen fights happily with bombs under the wings?

Danke

No, you're not crazy, unless I am, too ( ). I will swear there is no penalty for bombs & rockets, and I, too, recall the airplanes in AOE that dropped bombs and started performing. Had to drop the iron from the Mosquito to outrun the Me's, for instance. All the ordnance hung on the planes in that sim caused performance degradation, including the gun packs on bomber-destroying FW-190s and such.

I flew a full EAW career in Tempests, and despite having bombs on the airplane near 100% of the time, was able to do full-g bat turns and vertical manouvering - I know that wouldn't be possible in real life. Was able to outrun Doras and 109K's with them on, too.

Rather annoying, but not a showstopper by any means.

I think, however, that drop tanks cause drag penalties. I don't know why that would be, the programmers leaving things like that out. Odd.

Full agreement with RossC's observations.

Squadrons of La-7s whip butt on everything in the skies, even with bombs attached. Doesn't seem to affect performance in the least.

In mein experience, carrying der rockets bringen ein significant penalty in roll rate und drag. After you fire zem, der roll rate improves, but ist nicht restored completely, und you still have der extra drag. (Ach Himmel! What a drag )

Ich nicht sure about der bomben though. Did some jabo missions last veek und didn't really notice any weight or drag penalty, but I vasn't paying close attention.
