Ok, figured I'd throw this oldie but a goodie back on the system. I havent
played it since...oh, years ago.
I loaded it up, medium install, flew it for a day with no problems. Then,
all of a sudden, it won't work.

When I start it up in Windows the CD spins and the screen goes black, just
as it would before the movie starts. But the movie never starts and the CD
just keeps spinning.

When I go to the DOS prompt, the game starts but there's no sound and my
Voodoo3 card isn't detected.

What gives?

Here's my system specs:

AMDk6II 450mhz
Voodoo3 3500
Creative AWE64G Sound card
DX 8.0
Windows 98

All the drivers are current...relatively speaking.

Weird that it would work and then quit. Your DOS prompt woes sound like the audio and video drivers aren't loading properly.

Back in the day, when we wanted to play a DOS-based game, we had to reboot into the DOS prompt (not just open a DOS window). Rebooting into the DOS prompt allowed the config.sys and autoexec.bat files to load up the necessary audio, video, and mouse drives and allocate the necessary memory.

I can't begin to remember how to do this, so unless someone else does and tells you here, I suggest you go to The Underdogs which is an abandonware site. Go to their forums and ask the folks there how to setup your startup files so you can play your game.
