How were/are cowl flaps properly employed??. I realize they are to cool oil/engine temp, but did they fly with them open during combat?.

It's a trick....get an axe.

Someone mentioned that opening the cowl flaps for takeoff helf with heavy weight takeoffs from the carrier. outside of that I've noticed some information for the various phases of flight in the checklists, Shift-C is the keycommand I believe. You can also locate the checklists for the various "flyable" (not the initiallly IA aircraft) in each folder and print it/them out.
