Ok, I know we've been here before....but I'm really getting pi$$ed.

I'm on the eleventh mission of the US full campaign. I'm supposed to intercept a large gaggle of Betty's. So, I overfly the formation in order to dive in for an attack on the tail end charlie. My flight is a good two thousand feet above the bombers. I'm watching them with padlock as they fly underneath me. When, what to my wondering eye's should appear? I see the formation I'm tracking peel off and CLIMB to intercept me. And, I do mean CLIMB. These big, slow, bombers were acting an awwwful lot like an escort flight of Zero's. I'm thinking WTF? I flame two of them while my wingmen are flailing around. The whole time I'm swinging in for these kills I'm jinking the bomber/interceptor on my tail and dodging the tail gunners bullets from the Betty/Zero up front. Eventually my pursuer and pursuee do enough damage that I'm forced to bail. Well, actually I crash in order to fly this effed up mission all over again. This is unfreeeking believable!

I'm thinking that somebody at the programmers desk must've mistaken a few of the Zero's for Betty's. I just want to know when they're going to fix it.

It'll be a cold day in hell before those worthless MS hacks deign to give us a patch for one of THEIR wonderous products.

But still nice eye-candy though.

I set up a mission where I was a zero intercepting Avengers. I set the aggressiveness for the Avengers to high. When I attacked, they began to dogfight my flight of Zeros. I set the aggressiveness to low and then they just did evasive manuevers. Much better!. Maybe the Betty's are set to high aggressiveness in the campaign mission.

Try flying the Damn thing. I downloaded Bruce Thorson's patch to make it flyable. Anyways the thing flies and floats like it weighs 10 pounds, and it will glide forever. So I imagine the flight model is screwed somewhere and that is why it handles like a fighter. Any flight wizards out there care to take a look at the flight model? Probably not too difficult to fix.

Something seems wrong with the Betty's .air file. I tried to scan the files to see what the values are and I get the following error message "Invalid field in .air file scan terminated at offset 00000000".

Perhaps someone with better programming/cracking skills can figure what to do...

Perhaps exchanging the G4M and B25 air files could help determine where the problem is, although I'm not sure how that would affect the defensive gun positions (not familiar with the file structures) I don't recall seeing B-25s acting like fighters.

There are probably two things you want to do to combat the dogfighting betty's.

1. Open the .air file for the Betty and set the Aileron,Rudder And Elevator effectiveness to .50 .

2. If you want, open the particular scenario in the mission editor and set the Betty's to novice.

This should help tone them down to somewhat realistic levels.

Personally, I think the flight models for the whole game are totally wretched. I love the idea that we have a pacific sim finally, and the graphics totally rock. But after flying it off and on since it came out, the flight models are really starting to dissapoint me. The Dogfighting Bettys... Haven't dealt with them much much, just heard the rumors. I've seen Vals and Dauntlesses outmaneuver Corsairs and zeros though. The thing that bugs me the most however is YOUR flight model, which has two settings, medium, in which you are flying a stargfighter that never stalls and can outmaneuver anything else in the game, and Hard, in which your aircraft will not climb at all, bleeds speed like a parachute, and stalls and goes into gyrations every time you pull back on the stick. I've been using the various sims on the market for nearly four years now, and I know how to fly these things within their limits without yanking and jerking them around. Do a split S in the Corsair at 300 kts from 3000 feet and almost exactly 50% of the time, the maneuver will carry through correctly. The other 50% of the time, once it hits vertical, the stabs completely stop working and you dive directly into the sea, performing the maneuver exactly as you did it before. This is with the flight model set to hard. Keep in mind though that on this setting, you can still do loops in a b-25. Hell, just to see if I could, I started at 200 kts or so in the 25, rolled it over on it's back and PUSHED FORWARD on the stick. It very nearly completed the inverted Immellman. It stalled. right at the top, and then just hung there for almost thirty seconds before wallowing off on one wing. I'm sure with another 10-20 kts it would have performed the maneuver completely. And you're supposed to fight these spaceships with that Nose-heavy corsair we told you about.

What one has to remember is that a large proportion of the people here singing the praises of CFS2 are those who thought CFS1 was the bee's knees.
Compared to that pile of steaming shite CFS2 must seem like the holy grail and second coming of Christ all rolled into one.

The opinion of anyone who rated CFS1 I immediately discount. I've known even hardened playstation fanatics who laughed hysterically when confronted with CFS1.

CFS2 has one area of excellence...the graphics. No other sim anywhere has a/c models to match, or a damage model so infinitely satisfying. If ms had married that to a truly dynamic campaign AND world they'd have a masterpiece on their hands. Unfortunately they dropped the ball a few feet short of the line.

Result? CFS2 is another eye-candy baby with no real game-play substance.

Pray for a patch.

jajajaja...since i had my first pc (long time ago) i was really pissed about these buggy sims and about all the testers which never recognize these bugs due to the testing-time.

this sim becomes more and more crap while playing and testing it for myself.

again a mega-bug-flop of microsoft....be happy that the most of you dont have the german version. there are much more pissing bugs than in the english one.

I've attempted to fix the Betty's flight model. The latest rendition is in my 1.7 package...give it a try, if you want to.
