This is going to be one of my last few contributions to this board.

I bought CFS2 last weekend. And a few days ago, I successfully downloaded some aircrafts from simviation.com. And my curiorsity started to ask me what those .air, .dp and .cpd files are. I managed to download a decoder named AirEd editor which decodes .air files. I now understand what each record represents at least.

So I took the MiG-3 which I have downloaded for kinda experiment. So excited that just an hour ago, I have managed to work out something on the .air file. I changed the record 105 to 02(hex) for representing an AI aircraft instead of a flyable one. It works brilliantly well in Mission Builder. (i.e. Go into mission builder and it will show up on the enemy aircrafts' list). I have also checked record 316 which represents the Mach speed and it reads 0.581. I didn't change it so the FM is original.

The only trouble I have had is it being absent from the aircraft list in Quick Combat (abbrev. QC). It only appears in Mission Builder. But that's the same isn't it? Maybe even better, don't you think?

Create a folder called "MiG-3" or whatever inside the AIRCRAFT folder then unzip the zipped file. Remember to check the "Use Folder Names" option.

I wish I could sort out how to add more ammunitions to downloadable airfrafts in the future.

I am still trying to figure out how to add new "actions" to the default list of the Mission editor.

Your learning quickly Deano....
Now the QC thing is yet ANOTHER learning challenge. YOu have to add those new planes to the QC file. Go to WWW.COMBATFS.COM and search the CFS1 forum for adding planes it Quick Combat files. THey should be a very similar layout. Be warned, When I added all my aircraft to my QC file it took SEVERAL hours of manual editiing. There is a program at simviation under CFS utilities which automatically adjusts your QC file, but I don't think it's been tried yet with CFS2.

Anyone know how to alter the weapons configurations, specifically, how to add weapons to aircraft that have none?

Thank you Doc.

But after posting this, ironically, I ran into troubles in converting other planes into AI a/c. I used the same method: Changing Tircraft Type(Int32) to 02(Hex) right? But they don;t show up! What am I missing?

Doc: I've found it! It's dated 12 September 2000 and the Topic's heading is "is there a utility that will allow the creation of AI drones, or do i need software?".

It provides a lots of information regarding the FM of a downloadable plane. I am still trying to figure out why it doesn't read the .air files of the flyables come with the box. And this utility has nothing to do with armaments settings. It's something to do with the .dp files and there are other tools for editing them. Good luck!

It's all Japanese. I have had a hard time in reading the symbols. It's like mexican food to me. It's the latest 094 version which is much better than 069 version I downloaded somewhere which I I don't recall now. Anyway, I can load up a .dp files but I just don't know how to play around with those numbers. Apparently, you will have to know what boxes are all about.

Find tutorials in http://www.combatfs.com/cfc_faq.asp. It explains some general guildlines to determine boxes and poisition of various elements / systems of a plane. Good luck & to myself!
