I've seen this wingtip sidewinder arangement in a few drawn pictures, in 1 model kit, and in a game. Is this capable, or is it just complete BS to make it look cool to the public? Seems a bit much, as 2ltviper has expressed that Air-to-Air is not a helo's main role. Although this would be a good thing for fast movers if it came to fight-or-die...

Once again, no Sidewinders. It's something offered to export purchasers if they want to buy it, but we have little need for it. Currently, there are few scenarios when we would send helicopters into an area without at least some overhead protection in the form of USAF fighters. It's really an overkill. Training is concentrated on air to ground, it is not an air to air bird. Doctrine says that if you go air to air, loss ratios will be 1:1, not a good return at all. Use an F-16 (hell it's even cheaper at $20 million vs. $30 million).

Actually there is some footage of AH-64's firing many sidewinders at a large target, where did I see that now?

Oh yeah it was that crummy godzilla movie with ferris bueller. Never mind.

Hi,

It might well be possible that the Brits may use Starstreak on their Apaches.

The US Army has or had been evaluating both stinger and sidewinder on the basis of cost, performance, reliability, and the fact that one is made in the US and the other isn't. I personally could give a care less what the British Army will be arming its Longbows with, their birds, their ride, their expense. It's just another thing that adds to your takeoff weight that a hellfire could probably take care of just fine. The helicopter "games" have way too much emphasis on air to air.

The super-cobra can fire sidewinders.

Probably due to the Marine corp having Hornets and Harriers with sidewinders so there would be no logistic problems
