So, at least in EECH, ATGMs (Vikhr is the type I have the most experience with) seem to be the weapon of choice against slow-moving air targets. They will usually kill multiple helos, a single C-117 or A-10, and seem largely immune to countermeasures. I tried shooting down F-18s with them to no avail.

Is this realistic, either in its feasibility or its tactical appropriateness? (Not a loaded question - I'm just wondering. It may well be, and I'd be glad to hear it!) Is their laser guidance the reason for their immunity to flares and chaff? Is their relatively low speed and lack of maneuverability, compared to an Archer or AIM-9X for example, the cause of their comparative ineffectiveness against faster aircraft? Finally, would an actual attack helo pilot not be inclined to fly around wasting Vikhrs or Hellfires on other helicopters unless he had to, for self-defense? As you might have guessed, I'm messing around with "free flight" testing weapons, and not paying much attention to mission objectives.

Sorry for the barrage of questions!

The Vikhr-M was specifically designed with a secondary proximity fuse for use against slow flying aircraft. I wish Ka-52 TA had this capability enabled...

Helicopters are generally slow moving or standing still, so it's entirely feasible to hit them with hellfires. But any kind of fixed wing aircraft is simply flying too high and/or fast for the missile, and would have a low PK.

The Laser HF is the best option for US pilots in EECH against airtargets. I've managed to pick of some fastmovers with LHF but you have to be in a specific position to get a hit.
Helo's are genrally no problem to pick off with LHFs. RHFs can be spoofed by chaff.

One thing that struck me is that the HF moves as if it was aspect seeking.
Is this the way it's supposed to be?

I'd suppose so, that the radar HF could be acting as aspect seeking at least to a degree. There's no logic that I'm aware of that might justify such behavior of L variant. Just my (un)educated guess.

I don't think the Longbow has a STT feature on it's radar, thus trying to hit it with a RHL should be almost impossible.
