Why is it that modern choppers all seem to have wheels(i.e. Ah-64, UH-60,Mi-24etc) and older ones have skids(like the Huey and Ah-1 Cobra). Does it have to do with aerodynamics? It doesn't seem that wheels are any more aerodynamic than skids. And it also seems that it would actually be easier to off-load troops in hard to reach areas with skids instead of wheels.

Just wondering. What'dya you guys think?

It is a lot easier to taxi on wheels than
hover - taxi. Wheels also act like a shock
absorber.
