I don't have a computer. I've got a Frankenputer named Christine (remember the Stephen King book?). She won't run right for anyone but me

There's not much left of the original computer. It's a Celeron 433 OC'd to 541 with 2 HD's (2.5gb & 6.4gb), QDI P6I440BX Brilliant 1 MB, 128mg RAM, Magnovox 17" monitor, Monster MX80 sound card, Voodoo II SLI running through a Xentor TNT2, 24X CD, 24X CD with 4X CDRW, old old monitor speakers sitting on the desktop, Radio Shack force feedback headphones (I lov'em), and a Zoom controllerless V.90 ISA modem (no internet cable service here in Dogpatch USA ), CH Gamecard 3, Thrustmaster F-22 Pro Stick, TQS Throttle, and CH Pro Pedals running through a Quickshot J-Link Turbo joystick hub.

Dell P2 450; 128 ram; 16 mg STB TNTv4400; Montego II Sound; with 14gig Ultra ATA 7200rev harddrive; DVD drive; 17" Sony Trinitron and 4 Sony Speakers with a subwoofer. Crank the Subwoofer up with lots of bass and turn the speakers down to make them 20mm cannons sound like the 30mm cannons. HEHEHE. Wife's gonna get me headphones for xmas, I think. Running EAW at 1280x1024 with ExtraSquads=2. That's all the bad guys I can handle. Using CFS terrain on one game and autumn terrain on the other with every skin I can find. Forgot I got Falcon4 on my putter.

Ach Himmel...Alright. Well Herr Tailspin I have something close to your rig as far as base system. P233 MMX, 32 megs of RAM (whimper), Voodoo3 2000 PCI, 17" Dell whatever their name for a Trinatron is, SB Live, and my brand spanking new 56.6 modem. No cable lines here yet, I'm surprised we still don't have cans with string tied between them actually. In this part of Pennsyltucky (if you ever been here you know what I mean, as I just told someone) we just got actual real sewers this past summer! Oh der Horrido. And no we didn't have outhouses, just good old fashioned septic tanks, I knew that would be asked next...

And my New Year Resloution is to LOOT myself a new computer and then try to figure out how to hook a bicycle generator up to run it to play EAW.

Herr Schatten,

In this part of the North Maine Woods, we have no cable, and only got a local ISP 2 yrs ago. If we did have string the local critters would have eaten it all by now.

Ah good point. Speaking of local critters that reminds me to move my computer down to my solidly built 1950's era basement with built in bunker. Tommorow is the first day of buck season here and sitting in front of a big window on a computer is about as smart as wearing a hunter orange suit and skipping through No Man's Land at Verdun. It isn't unheard of to hear full rock and roll echoing through the woods around here during hunting season.

Herr Schatten...I live in Southern Illinois, on the banks of the Ohio. My neighbor just had a terrible fire break out in his bathroom. Good thing they got it put out before it got to the house! You know the difference between a hillbilly and a S.O.B.? The Ohio river.

Yesterday was last day for us, but black powder starts next week. I have an apple orchard out back and one window over looks it. When I am home and in season I keep one eye on the monitor and another out the window.

Got an 8 pointer last year without ever going outside.

Herr Tailspin, there it had to happen, hasn't happened for a couple days...Pepsi through the nose. Good ones.

Herr Raptor, I definately know that feeling. What makes it even more interesting this year is that my neighbors moved out, their house is basically abandoned and there are 4 deer that are constantly in their yard. So I'm bringing in the dogs too this season. I've seen guys staking the old abandoned house out and know as soon as the sky gets light enough for it to be legal there's going to be a firing squad right across the road.

I am lucky to be living on a hilltop and own most of the land around me (110+ acres). All of the folks that live around here know each other and respect each other's land (ie, get permission before hunting). We are far enough off the beaten path the we don't get many yahoos from out of state, so it is fairly safe, but I still wear orange if I go any distance from the house and carry it in the car when I go to work.

Here's another for the nose...

What's the best compliment you can give a girl from the North Woods...Nice Tooth!

Hmmm, well, here ya go---

-Celeron [email protected]

-96mb RAM

-13gig HD

-32x CDROM

-12mb Voodoo2 SLI, looking to go V3 3000

-SBLive with crappy headphones (considering a speaker setup)

-no, you will not get my joystick type out of me, but I have a Saitek HOTAS on order, having discovered the rather intense joys of F4. I'm usually a GPL driver, so my money went into steering wheels...

-modem is a non-issue as it sucks so bad

That didn't hurt too much

well I am sortof creaking along on my old machine.

AMD-233MHz
8.4 Gig HD
64 Megs SDRAM
Creative Labs Banshee 16 meg
MOBO hardwired soundcard (i forgot the brand name)
MS Sidewinder Pre-pro

This set up runs EAW fairly well, as well as quite a few other games (HeavyGear2, AOE2, Janes F-15). Santa won't be bringing me a new computer this year but maybe the Easter Bunny will.

And to all the Hunters. Did the endless hours of playing EAW improve your Hunting/Gunnery skills. Or did your background in hunting improve your EAW skills???? Here in the South Carolina Lowcountry, we don't spend much time hunting. Sure you'll see us in the woods with our camo and our guns, but we spend most of our time running from the Mosquitos!!

My POS:

Celeron PPGA 366 @460Mhz
MSI MS-6163 M/B
128mb
Diamond Monster Fusion 16mb AGP*
SB PCI-64
Quantum Fireball EX 4.3Gb*
32x CD-ROM
17" WEN .27 Monitor
JVC 40mm Headphones
Saitek Cyborg 3D*

* denotes inline for immediate upgrade.

I'm always meaning to do something about the sound situation but never do...too busy buying new CPU/MB.
I think I'll stick with the Celery for a while though...it clocks quite easily to 550Mhz even...it just doesnt run stabily there in the Durban heat. BUT with a better/bigger case and more cooling it will do....and 550Mhz is pretty fast...I've even got it to run (briefly) at 570Mhz!
Otherwise the Banshee is out soon in favour of Gigabyte GA-660+ TNT2A, the HDD for a 13Gb Quantum CX, and the Cyborg for a X36!

When they pay me....

OK, my system's been carbon dated to somewhere in the Ming Dynasty. I won't bother putting too many brand names down, it really doesn't matter, as you'll soon see...

Ahem.

P200 MMX
32 Meg of Ram
10 Meg HD
SB PCI64
Cruddy Generic Graphics card (dunno the stats, needs to be chucked out)
Cruddy Generic Monitor, 15 inch.
Oh, and a Micro$oft Precision Pro Stick, kindly supplied by Onkel Wilhelm.
Cruddy set of headphones/microphone bought for about $6 US for Roger Wilco use (and you know, they're pretty decent!)
Auslinx "Tasmanian Devil" 56k Modem.
Winnie-the-Pooh mousemat.

Cue the uproarious laughter and fingerpointing. Danke.

Anyway, I'm scraping my Aussie Samolians together and I'm considering getting myself a new system.

Alright, here're my specs...

GW2K Pentium II 266 (no OC)
128 Megs/RAM
Pure 3D (Voodoo 1)
17in. Gateway monitor
Diamond Monster Sound
USR 56k modem (external)
TM F-22 and TQS HOTAS

Probably get a brand new one when I'm off to college and leave that for my sibs to deal with, but after reading some other posts, I don't feel so bad... I think you guys in hunting areas will be alright so long as you're not playing Deer Hunter . If you are... take cover!

My present machine:

Dell Dimension XPS D300, 300 MHz Pentium II with MMX.

128 MB of RAM
Matrox Millenium G200, 16 MB of memory.
Diamond Monster Sound MX300 sound card, with big fat Sony MDR-C60 headphones.
8.4 gigs of HD space.

I fly with a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro (not the force-feedback one). I admit to missing the sheer number of buttons and hats on the old Thrustmaster sticks, but on the other hand the Thrustmasters break easy and CH doesn't make a stick I could afford and find in stock at the same time. Plus I like the nifty stick-twist-rudder feature.

I cut my teeth on a Packard-Bell 386-sx @ 20 MHz with 2 MB of RAM. It was upgraed with another 2 MB and a Sound Blaster Pro, but the machine was pretty dead by 1993 or so. I decided that when Aces Over Europe wouldn't run on it anymore, that it wasn't worth playing on. Then the family got an IBM Aptiva Pentium 200, the black one with the under-monitor tray that had the disk drives. It was nice for a while, except it functioned like a hamster on crack. Even now, years later, after extensive software upgrading, BIOS updates, and two instances of hardware surgery (switching out the original trashy hardware for stuff from my computer that I don't use anymore), it still gets sick every three weeks and eats important files. Glad I don't play on THAT machine.

S! Y'all! Well,Im sitting in front of this big box with alighted screen in it,and theres another smaller box off to one side, that makes a humming noise and kind of a grinding sound when I punch the button to switch it off.Oh,and theres a sliding tray that comes out when I push another button(but I think its where my coffee cup goes)and the big box says Dell 21" and the smaller one says P11 with Intel.Sometimes little whisps of smoke come out of the small box when I tell it that its a bad boy and its running much too slowly. It really doesnt like to be kicked Ive noticed, also.Oh,I forgot,Its a 350mhz,64RAM,and it apparently has a hard drive(my drives harder than yours, heh, heh, heh,)Ive found it very difficult trying to get the round little frisbie thing into the slot thats underneath where I put my coffee cup,but I found that if I fold it in half I can stuff it in OK. Is there a better way?

You don't have to fold it, trim from the inside out so that the bottom of the cup just fits into the newly opened hole.

Dont worry about cutting into the painted area on the disc...It's just a lot of junk you don't really need to run the game, you know adverts and filler, besides the game may run faster that way too.

Thats marvelous,MR,the cup fits beautifully and doesnt seem to drip coffee into the small box like it used to!If I improved my brand of coffee from Old Navy brand do you think it might help in my reaction times when those bloody Bf109's jump me?Is it really necessary to have a frisbie that is virgin(so to speak)? As I modified my EAW frisbie to hold the coffee cup firmly Im a little worried that Ill lose some important element, such as guns or cannon.Or are they wildly overemphasised, and not that important in the scheme of things?

If you're worried, use a smaller cup, that's all.
