Same for me- got at least a dozen server errors before I could connect. Guess it's time to fire up ICQ and play IP.

Sorry, couldn't make it tonight. Too worn out from the marathon FFA session with you the other night. What a blast that was.
Butcherbird13: (after having shot me down, and now running away with me diving towards him after respawn) -" Climb Wulfie, bad man wants to hurt us...."
Major Lee: "I see you boy, you're mine now"
BB13: "He looks mad, climb, Wulfie, climb..."
I don't know how many head on passes we made, and you don't know how irritating it was to have you damage my ailerons EVERY time we did that. I know I smoked you a lot doing those, but the ole' Tempest just isn't the same with only one working aileron. Thank God for HORSEPOWER....
That co-op bomber intercept with you and Sidewinder was great, too. Hitting that airfield at the end so cool. Formation strafing. It did not last long enough....
See you Sunday evening, 2000hrs; ButcherBird13, BurningBandit, Sidewinder062 and Daimler_2.
Major Lee

Ahh... I see the Squadron has grown! S! See you then.

BTW, I'm sure most of you have known about or have already done this, but... I was reading an article in a magazine that said if you are having trouble with latecy(sound familiar to anyone who plays at the Zone?)the you should make sure software compression is disabled for your modem. I did this last night and logged on to the Zone just to see if it had helped any. Saw more green last night than any other time I've been there. I didn't fly,but it appeared as though it might have improved things. Coulda just been "a good night". Well, we'll see Sunday. S!

Finally!
I got time to WRITE HAA!

OK about two weeks ago I met Bandit on the zone....in one of our scuffles we were outnumbered in a bad way....thru turns and twistis and BLASTING ANYTHING that flew in to our gunsite we reduced the numbers in this COOP Fighter sweep to more manageable numbers....when I say managable I mean there was only 3to 1 favorer of them LOL!
this is compared to the 8 to one we started with 3 to 1 looks good hahahaaa....

So there I was turning after flaming a spit when on my 6 was 2 determined enemy craft closing to the kill zone fast.....Bandit just let me know he nailed the one he was pursing but this was no time for me to think of celebrating......

Another spit flew in front of me I think he over shot bandit ....so I turned sharp lined it up and damaged it ....this was no time to get greedy , I pulled up and went high dove and banked to see where my "friends" were.

Well now there were 3 on my tail .....I thought wait a minute, There werent that many left in my area ......Being I cant type fast to check ,I made a calculated Guess.

I keep TURNING HARD RIGHT the spits closed then
quick left back to RIGHT only 2 planes there now so now it was time to GAMBLE .....I went VERTICAL ......as I watch over my shoulderthe spit closed for the easy kill I was providing for him.....so was the other plane WHEN.......

BLAM! THE SECOND PLANE OPENED UP OF THE 1ST AND BLEW IT OUT THE SKY.

Bandit responded I GOT THOSE 2 on your 6

I responded "I was hoping that was you! "

It had worked . I lead the spit to his death by Bandits guns with me as Bait.....
Why I enjoyed this moment so much was that we didnt NOT ACTALLY PLAN IT.....WOW !
Bandit Reconized what I was doing and nailed him. I gambled that the 3rd plane WAS HIM and it worked! WHEW!!

to top it off I flew with Major Lee the next night AND HE DID THE SAME THING without me telling him of what Bandit did.....MAN THERE NOTHING LIKE ZONE PLAY with these guys !

That is why I was let down so much when my weekly jaunt to the zone was cancelled by my unable to get online AAAAARRRRRRHHHHHHHGGGG.

The whole week I had the same feeling as when you lose power from an electrical storm.
That is your not in bad shape but something was missing. Worse was that I didnt see any of them post WHEN they would be on
A couple of trips to the ZONE was uneventful.

Its WAS with this in mind that I signed on the ZONE THURSDAY.

was basically just hanging around then I was "I.M." with zone friends:

I AM CLOSE BY......MAJOR LEE

YEEEEEEESSSSS Let the FUN begin !

So we greeted each other and went to play .

others wanted to join so why not ...
The first was 2 vs 2 with the Major AND MYSELF OPPOSING each other . Its was Tempest vs A8 hoooo boy!

the 1st time Major flamed my wingman 1st pass {shame on you lol}

I had turn a hair too soon and instead of being on majors 6 I was dead infront of HIS wingman OOOOOOOPPPPSSS
end of 1st game

Then it was time for P47 vs A8 ....hee hee FUN for me!

we launched BUT his wingman DIDNT so we had a 2 to 1 advantage...I notifed LEE that he didnt stand a chance {hee hee mild taunt}

This only fired his competitive sprit and he insisted on the game continue....so we did.
After some twisting and turning I dove on the major who turned and my wing man had a difficult shot but made it and he typed it to me in caps "I GOT MAJOR LEE"

The Major not to be intimidated INSISTED we do this again.....OK I said

2vs 1 hee hee

But this time we had some Warping in the game

And I looked back at the MAJOR with my wing man on his 6 in hot pursit, the game put LEE at a disadvantage "warped" AND SLOWED HIM DOWN ......SO here I am ABOVE CLIMBING .....therEs my friend Major Lee Low and slow down on the deck with a pretty good pilot on his 6......

I thought should I just let my friend get away....let those two keep going at it......play fair and not take advantage of this???????????????????

NAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I pulled it around and dove on HIM!!!!

Coming in from 2 oclock Lee saw me ,took the best choice he had in his postion and cut down my angle BUT I was blazing away not caring about ammo at this point and some of the rounds found their mark ,smoking his motor.

I pulled into a zoom not giving any quarter to my friend . The wingman was smelling blood but LEE wasnt gonna go down easily so as they were twisting in I came plenty of speed and postion ....Lee had to turn or be shot down by my wingman .....he turned then climbed avoiding my wingman guns just barely but his plane wouldnt allow him to turn/climb as well as he needed to it was too damaged....

In his climb I unloaded on it and it exploded.

As the major was lowering in his parachute he said his wingman wanted to rejoin our game and asked if it was ok?

I said "SURE WELL KILL HIM TOO" {BLATANT TAUNT}

note:
The reason I mention this is because when WE taunt each other it is meant to tease and in fun....NOT to insult....which sometime happens on the zone

Ok back to the game......

so we go to restart when my wingman doesnt launch and neither does LEEs

just him and me..
Having had enough of my idiocy one word came across the screen......FFA
THEN.........FLY

I typed in a toung in cheek "HI" as we closed on each other
"HI" came the reply along with fire power from the tempest guns..

did I mention the english channel is cold this time of year??? lol!

second GAME of FFA....
again closing on each when a message appeared

"Come get SOME"

as WE passed my cannons hit leaving a TEMPEST with a smoking motor....

"Got Some" was my reply....

And thats how our FFA session went the minute one of us seemed to be doing well "BANG"
in the Channel.....

I also let him know how much I truley MISSED this and was enjoying myself........even if I had a parachute. LOL!

When we play we always make little retorts or quips that make me laugh.....even when we do taunt each other its for fun.....Although our aim Does tend to get a little bit BETTER

At the end of the night the major was going to go the SideWinder062 {I believe} wanted one more COOP so we said OK

Winder is a good pilot who was the one that shot me down in the first 2vs 2

so now that we were on same side

The battle went great 3 FWS HEAD ON at the B17 ALL opened up , I think winder AND myself aimed at same plane it had 3 smoking engines.

the bombers were quickly dispatched......the escort went home BUT LEE spotted and Airfield
{he so good at it}

He lined up a formation straff.....

It went beautifully....

one the first pass the major and I picked same target I could see him above me as we destoryed it ....Then as we pulled out we did a beatiful crossing patten just "like in the movies" I banked left climbing Lee right.

As we turned and dove I could see the 3RD FW cut across horizontally making its run just as we opened fire on our target he flew past nailing his.....WE hit OURS ...LEE and I crossed ......the target was DESTROYED

the WOW factor hit a perfect 10

I asked Lee did you see that???
He replied he was impressed too....
GREAT way to end a GREAT night.

S!

Sorry I missed it! Good report BB13. Gets me psyched up for tommorrow. See you then. S! And I have learned how difficult it can be to face the Major in 1V1.

Major~ to find if software compression is enabled it's My Computer to dial-up networking, right click on your connection, choose properties and server types. The directions I gave you tonight at the Zone were no good. Don't know if it would help with latency, but that's how ya do it.

The crew ( Butcherbird13, BurningBandit, and myself) spent almost four hours Sunday evening flying mostly co-op missions on the Zone. My favorite mission was us in P47D's, with "Holy Moses" rockets, making an interdiction run against a German halftrack convoy. As we neared our target, we were intercepted by 8 FW190D-9's. I was flying high, and behind the Butcher and Bandit.
As I caught up to the dogfight area, I looked down and Butcher had two Dora's on his tail. I had about 2500ft on them. I rolled the Jug over and dove on the Dora's. Butcher pulled up slighty and they all bled off speed. I dropped in behind the trail Dora, and it tried go vertical with barely enough energy to pull it off. I had plenty of "e" to follow him through his loop. He did not make it over the top; my eight fifties took care of him. I typed in "1" on the chat line. I pointed the Jug back down, and lined up on the other Dora. I gave it a little lead, and fired, damaging him slightly. The Dora turned, but it was too late. I had energy and position on him, a couple more bursts, and he was toasted; I typed in "2" on the chat line. Butcher went on to attack some of the Dora's; I went for the ground targets. Bandit took out two other Dora's, and Butcher ended up with four for himself. We expended our rockets and remaining ammo on a nearby airfield.
Other missions were similar; whenever one of us had a bandit on our six, another in the crew came after him. To paraphrase Hub Zemke: "don't get involved in a turning fight; the danger from an external bounce is too great". That was demonstrated several times last night. Any bandit on anyones tail was promptly jumped by another. Try co-op missions. If you have never had anyone cover you, or cover someone else, it is a whole new dimension to this game. Next week, we will try the new ECA-Online add-on. Major Lee
