Hi there!
Just wondered if I might be able to solicit some help with the following:

Running 1.08F WWII Fighters
GeForce with newest nVIDIA Ref. Drivers
1024x768 (16bit)

Getting a LOT of sky tearing (Using Accuracy over speed, D3D with Direct X 7.0a Retail, etc.). Anyone else having problems?

Never seemed to happen with my old TNT card.

How can I get my HAT switch to smoothly POV around the cockpit instead of snap views? My mouse used to be able to just rotate around plane in F10 mode, what do I change?

Had a few CTDs today. Strange. Anyone know if a new patch is forthcoming?

re: sky-tearing; haven't seen this, don't own an nVidia based card. A couple of suggestions though: Try setting the .MegsOfTextureMem to 3 in the ww2.ini configuration file, which will force the game to use as much on-card video memory as is available. Texture tearing is usually caused by disabled vsync. Try enabling vsync in the ww2.ini file and also in your DirectX Display Control Panel.

POV hat: first of all, make sure that your joystick is correctly recognized and calibrated under Windows. Test it to check that the POV hat is working properly. Then, in the WWII Fighters Controller Setup screen, choose the appropriate controller type. If that doesn't work and your joystick can be programmed, program it to send SHIFT-LEFT etc for the appropriate POV directions. Also, the ww2keys.txt file allows you to remap the controls.

No new patches for the game. 1.08F was released in March of last year and the team was then reassigned to other titles.

S.

Tolwyn,

Very interesting because I was about to post the exact question concerning the "sky tearing." I just installed my new Asus V-6800 which has caused the same effect for me as well! I have also noticed that the clouds in Janes F/A-18 do not appear as good as they did with my V3/2000 pci card. However, the overall performance has been greatly enhanced! Anyway,I hope we can get the answer to help solve this "tearing" issue because WWII Fighters is one of my favorites.

GeForce sky tearing can be mostly cured by installing the Nvidia Detonator drivers version 3.69 or higher and running in 32 bit color.

Sorry to trouble you for a link or more specifics SneakyPete, but according to This Link (000214), the only drivers available on nVIDIA's site are the 3.68 drivers.

I imagine that you're speaking of beta drivers, which aren't directly available from the pages on nVIDIA's site (that I could find). A link that you provide would be helpful; and I'll try what you suggest.

But I can argue that I've been using the 3.68 drivers and REGARDLESS of my desktop's color depth or display resolution (and corresponding resolution on the game) the sky tearing persists.

'Course, you did say "mostly cured..." which means nothing to me if the sky still tears!
