I'm curious because the new ATI Radeon has a glitch with 16-bit color. I own F4.0, RB3d and Janes Fighters Anth. What about Flanker, WWII, and the civil aviation sims?

Florrb,

Most productions in late 1999 and this year support 32 bits colour. Some even support 32 bits colour at very high resolution like 1600x1200.

Those that I am able to recall are Gunship, Ka52 TA, EECH and the forthcoming JetFighter IV as well as Rage's Typhoon.

Flanker2 definitely supports 32bit color. Dunno about the others.

The only ones I have that support 32 bit are Flanker 2.0, Jane's USAF ( sure, laugh, but I like it... ), and KA-52 Team Alligator. All three really shine on a TNT2 card. Also if you are into shoot-em-ups Hidden & Dangerous and Heavy Gear 2 support 32bit colour.

Thanks, can I assume that Falcon 4.0, RB3d, and Fighters Anthology (the ones I currently own) are 16-bit. BTW, does 16 bit mean 256 colors?

Nope (you'd notice if F4 was in 256!!).

Bits Colours
4 = 16
8 = 256
16 = 65536
24 = 16 777 216

Apparently 32bit is the same as 24 only faster since the bit lenght is doubled from 16 instead of the 1&1/2 of 24bit. I don't quite get that part but that's what I've been told.

Thanjs; so 16-bit means 2^16 colors? Will it be marked on the box somewhere if a game is 16 or 32-bit color?

Jupp, that's how you do the numbers.

If the publisher thinks it's worth mentioning, but as a general rule I'd say no (couldn't find it on any of my boxes).

Check the products official website (if any), they might have that kind of detailed info.

Are you the one planing on getting a Radeon? Thinking about one of those myself, would be nice to know how it works.

I'm still 5-6 months from buying anything, I'm afraid. Just thought I'd try and get some info, and see if any discussions resulted.

EECH also supports 32 bit colour, and since the ATI card takes a miniscule performance hit when going to 32 bit colour, I'm very seriously thinking about getting one, since my old TNT 2 Ultra doesn't do my Athlon 800 justice any more.....

Cheers, Wulf.
